In what order should I populate the DIMM slots on an x79 Dark, x99 FTW, or x99 Classified motherboard?

The DIMM slots on the x79 Dark or x99 boards are laid out as follows, left to right:

1 - 2 - 3 - 4  CPU  8 - 7 - 6 - 5

The DIMM slots should be populated in the following order:

1, 3, 5, 7, 2, 4, 6, 8
