How can I fully remove or purge the Killer Xeno Pro drivers from my system?

Last Update: 2009/05/19

Purging the Xeno Drivers
This cleaning process should not be needed very often. Old drivers should have been removed during any new installs (In other words, for the sake of saving time you should consider simply running the latest drivers before going through the entire purge process).

However, failure at some point during a new install may result in a variety of odd behavior, and if something was accidentally left behind even an update/reinstall may continue to miss it.

This cleaning process may also be used to fully remove the Xeno and uninstall it from your system. Simply stop at step 12 and do not continue on to step 13 where you would put the Xeno back in and load new drivers.

If you choose to purge your system:

Prior to starting:

You should disable or uninstall all security software and any program that would normally start during windows startup that might potentially try to use the internet on its own such as Steam, Skype or any program with an auto update feature.

Additionally, you may also consider powering off your PC and removing Xeno from the PCI slot before you begin. Some people have found this to produce the best results when trying to "purge" your system of as much as possible (follow standard safety measures for removal of PC parts such as being grounded at all times and fully unplugging the PC from the wall).

Do not connect your other network connections at any point during the process. Some people have found disabling your other network connections in the bios to produce the best results.
You should also drop a copy of the latest Xeno drivers onto your desktop for easy access. You can always delete it later when you are done (Be sure you choose the installer based on your operating system).

You may want to copy this post out into a text file on your desktop since you won't have an internet connection during some parts of it. You can always delete it later.

Right click and exit Xeno Systray (If you have FNA programs installed, you might consider opening task manager and forcing them closed as well, along with Xeno port manager).

Cleaning process:

1. Go into
C:\Program Files\Bigfoot Networks\XenoSuite

Run the programs: CleanIT.exe, wait for it to finish, then run BfClean.exe

2. Run the installer of the latest driver set. Select "remove"

3. When you get to "Uninstall Complete", select "NO, I will restart later" and "Finish"

4. Go into add/remove programs and uninstall all FNA apps (you do not need to reboot after each one, you can say "no I will reboot later" and do them all at one time)

5. Reboot

5.5 Optional Step: If you have "Driver Cleaner" from: https://www.drivercleaner.net/ now is the time to run it. Boot into safe mode and follow the instructions for driver cleaner to remove "Killer Xeno". Driver Cleaner will attempt to perform steps 6 and 7 of this purge list (though you might consider visually verifying its success) and has the added bonus of removing extraneous windows backup copies of driver files (Note: Driver Cleaner is not owned or distributed by Bigfoot Networks -- please contact Driver Cleaner for any issues directly related to their product).

6. Explore your system and delete these folders if they exist:

C:\Program Files\Bigfoot Networks
C:\Program Files (x86) \Bigfoot Networks
C:\WINDOWS\Bigfoot
7. Explore to:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers

Delete any of the following files if they exist:

XenoXx86.sys
XEdgeX86.sys

XenoVx86.sys
VEdgeX86.sys

VEdgeA64.sys
XenoVa64.sys

Also delete any of the identical names ending in .old instead of .sys

If your system will not allow you to delete them, rename them to .old instead of .sys, and delete the .old files after a future reboot.

Please do not delete any other files that you are unsure of as this is a sensitive part of the windows operating system. There may be a variety of similar names that are not our software.

8. Explore to:

C:\WINDOWS\system32

Look for a file named: bfLLR.dll

If it exists, delete this file (it may have already been removed during the uninstall)

If you cannot delete this file, right click on it, rename it to bfLLR.old and you can safely delete it the next time you reboot your computer (if you wait till after you reinstall to delete this, only get rid of the ".old" file, not the new one).

9. Then look on your C drive for any file named "Xeno setup" or something obviously named Xeno sitting on the C drive itself that isn't in a folder, delete it (It's ok if it's not there. These instructions cover what to look for in all 4 operating systems we support).

10. Steps 10 and 10.5 are completely optional as they will remove feature settings files that have no effect on the driver directly.

Optional files to delete (step 10)

These files do not have a direct effect on the driver or it's install process, so deleting them will not solve a bad install. They are usually left behind so that Xeno Bandwidth Control settings are not lost between driver updates.

Located on Windows XP
c:\Documents and Settings\NAME\My Documents
Located on Windows Vista
C:\Users\NAME\Documents

NAME = the user name you log into your PC with that has Xeno installed

Files in documents folder:
Bandwidth.xml
BigfootDiag.txt
BigfootDiag1.txt
BigfootDiag2.txt

Optional Step 10.5
3 more files can be deleted during a purge: menu.bfm, menu.old, menu.new - These files are only used to maintain which icons are displayed in the Xeno Tray right click menu (and the order they will appear). It does not store the icon appearance itself nor any data related to how the driver functions.

Instructions to find menu.bfm are here (.old and .new if present would be in the same folder):
https://killernic.com/KillerForums/showthread.php?t=2065

menu.bfm will be created again after an install; any FNA programs will need to be installed again before they will appear in the menu.bfm file (to display in the Xeno tray right click menu)

11.
Run a disk cleanup (start > programs > accessories > system tools)

At the very least you should check off the boxes for: Temporary internet, Recycle Bin and Temporary Files. Selecting the rest is up to you; it may result in a cleaner system but could take some time to complete, especially if you choose "compress old files".

12. You may skip this step, but as an option: now is the time to run any additional cleaning tools you would normally use to clean your system such as a Registry Cleaner or Disk Defragmenter

13. Power off your computer. Allow 20-30 seconds for the PC cache files to be purged while powered off before turning it back on. Now would be a good time to reinstall the Xeno back into a PCI slot if you removed it prior to starting. (follow standard safety measures for installing PC parts such as being grounded at all times and fully unplugging the PC from the wall)

14. When you are ready, ensure everything is plugged back in correctly; the PC has power, the Xeno has the network cable, etc

15. When you turn the system back on be sure to give it time to fully load the operating system. Windows may take slightly longer than usual without an internet connection or while it tries to figure out what to do with the Xeno (which it may not yet recognize).

16. Run the latest installer and follow all prompts as normal. Do not attempt to do anything else on the PC during the install. Reboot when prompted at the end.

17. Give the system time to recover after the install, there are still a few more things that need to complete setup in the background after the reboot and it may take a bit longer than normal. Future reboots should return to somewhat normal speeds.

18. At this point you should have a working internet connection again. If you need further assistance to get the card into working condition, please contact tech support:
https://www.bigfootnetworks.com/support/

19. Now that you have a working connection; if you decide to turn on additional programs during startup: please turn on one at a time and reboot so that you can test each program for changes or interference on your system. In general the fewer programs you have loading at startup the less likely you are to have problems.
