Why is my nForce RAID array getting SMART errors under XP 64bit?

Last Update: 2010/08/01

Problem:  There is a known issue with SMART detection and certain hard drives with XP 64 while in RAID with the onboard controller.  The current driver interperates  the drive status incorrectly, and sets off the SMART notification.  This issue is in XP 64bit ONLY.

Solution:  Roll the drivers back to version 9.64 WQHL and that should clear the issue.  To do this, I suggest downloading Driver Sweeper and the 9.64 drivers up front.

9.64 drivers

Driver Sweeper

Once both are downloaded, reboot and go into Safemode.  During reboot, before the XP splash screen pops up, start pressing F8, once the boot menu pops up, select Safemode.  Once into safe mode, go to Add/Remove programs, and uninstall Media Shield.  After that, install and run Driver Sweeper.  Once into Driver Sweeper, check NVidia Chipset, and click on clean (lower right corner).  Once it is finished, reboot, go into normal Windows and install the 9.64 drivers.  This should resolve the SMART errors in XP 64.
