24bit is 8-bits for Red, 8-bits for Blue, and 8-bits for Green. 32bits is 8/8/8 for RGB, then an extra 8bits for Alpha transparency or other info. 24bit and 32bit both have the SAME amount of possible colors, 16.7 million. (2^24)
