How do I find the PCoIP event log files?

Last Update: 2012/12/14

Before you submit PCoIP logs to Tech Support:

  • It is highly recommended to set the NTP time server in the PCoIP Zero Client (and/or PCoIP Host Card) so that entries in the file have a date and time stamp.  How do I enable NTP on PCoIP Zero Clients (15134-653)
  • Note the exact time frame the issue occurred.
  • For VMware View logs, zip the "log" directory.  Note that logs that are 11-12kB are just PCoIP server startup information and do not contain any useful debug information. Ensure logs larger that 11-12kB are included in the zipped log file.
  • Ensure level3 logging is enabled on both soft client and virtual machine, files can grow quite large so please disable after troubleshooting.

PCoIP Log Files in VMware View Location

The PCoIP server files along with agent files, debug files for VMware, etc. can be found on your VM in the following folders depending upon the View Agent version:

  • View 4.0: C:\WINDOWS\Temp
  • View 4.0.1, 4.0.2, & 4.5 or newer (Win XP): C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VDM\logs
  • View 4.0.1, 4.0.2, & 4.5 or newer (Vista): C:\Users\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VDM\logs
  • View 4.0.1, 4.0.2 (Win 7):  C:\ProgramData\VMware\VDM\logs
  • View 4.5 or newer (Win 7): C:\Users\All Users\VMware\VDM\logs  or  C:\ProgramData\VMware\VDM\logs

Notes:

  • These are typically hidden files and folders.
  • It is assumed that C:\ is your default drive, there may be cases where you have to substitute another drive letter.
  • PCoIP_server*.txt file is typically the one of interest.
  • A new file is created each time you connect.
  • Files older than 10 days are deleted.
