How much current (amps) can be pulled safely through the motherboard fan headers?

The standard fan controllers used on all our motherboards cannot run more than a 1 amp (12 watts) 12 volt fan.  If your application requires a more substantial power source, you will either need to attach the fan directly through the power supply or through a high power fan controller if one is available.
