If there is a red light by the CPU fan plug on your EVGA motherboard, this indicated an issue in the CPU area of the motherboard. The possibilities are:
- CPU 12V power is not connected properly.
- Be sure that your 8 pin CPU power cable is fully connected. EVGA only recommends a 4 pin CPU power cable if the motherboard specifically has only 4 pins for CPU power.
- Check to be sure that you are using the 8 pin CPU power and not the 8 in PCIE power cable.
- CPU is overheating.
- If you are able to get into BIOS, check your CPU temperature. Most CPUs can not run higher that 80 C stably. EVGA recommends that a CPU not idle higher than 50C.
- CPU socket damage
- Check the socket for the CPU. If there is any damage to the socket in any way, this red light is usually active.
- Other Motherboard failure
- There are other components around the CPU socket that if they have failed, can cause a red light indication by the CPU fan plug.
