funny story here. I powered down my machine and noticed a brown spider sitting next to my gtx 590 air vent. I figured it was fried from the temperature of the gpu and went and got a Kleenex to smoosh it. I didn't want to get yucky spider on my pc so I tried to gently grab it and to my surprise it darted into my gtx 590 heatsink. I didn't want to chance anything so I took the graphics card out of the pc and got a pair of tweezers. I fought with the spider for a while until it squeezed being the plastic fan shroud and the pcb where I couldn't reach it or see it. I've been waiting here since, and not sure what to do lol. I can go away and wait for it to leave, but I will never really know if it's gone without taking the 590 apart, or sit here for hours waiting for it to leave, which I don't want to do. Any ideas?

Just power it on and melt the sucker. I can't see that borking your card.

    Here's whatchya do, Bennett: 2011/04/03 15:38:07 (permalink)
    1. Equip yourself with a pair of leather work gloves.
    2. Power-down your PC.
    3. Grab a large Zip-Loc bag.
    4. Remove the GTX590, and place it into said Zip-Loc.
    5. Place GTX590-contained Zip-Loc into your freezer.
    6. Grab yourself a beer.
    7. Drink.
    8. Rearrange your sock drawer.
    9. Grab yourself another beer.
    10. Drink that one.
    11. As long as one hour has elapsed from the time you first placed the Zip-Loc into your freezer, grab yourself another beer.
    12. Slam that one too.
    13. Remove said Zip-Loc from freezer.
    14. Place Zip-Loc into a United States Postal Service Priority Mail cardboard box.
    15. Go to your nearest Post Office.
    16. Mail package to 101 Pterodactyl Court, Bedrock, Pangea, OU812.
    17. Thank you!

Wait I thought step 3 was profit Bam?

In all seriousness your not the first person to have a spider crawl in their card. I would use compressed air to get it out if possible, but plenty of people have run a card with a spider inside without even knowing it. I guess there is a chance it could cause a problem, but the % of that happening has to be very low.

Put the graphics card in and turn evga precision and put fan speed to 100 percent while having a camcorder behind your pc and wait for the magic to happen. :D

install the card like you normally would, make sure you have the latest drivers too.

then load up a program like furmark.

Well I went and watched a movie and came back. Still can't see the spider. Not really sure if he even left or not. I don't have a can of compressed air but I do have an air compressor so I think I will take the card out to the garage and spray some air into it. Too be honest I hate spiders and I'm a little scared to touch the card lol. I guess I just have to be a man.

Make sure you don't have any water in your air compressor before you spray it on your computer parts.

Depending on where OP hails from he might want to use a little caution. Mr spider might be a Brown Recluse which happens to be poisionous and can deliver a very nasty bite. Id try to blast that sucker out with compressed air like others have stated, and promptly squash him flat.[:D

yeah, here in virginia at least... if it's big and brown... could be a wolf or a brown recluse... don't wanna ever get close enough to find out definitively... common house spider though... no biggie.

Ya, I live in Montana. The spider was all brown. No big sac on it or anything that I could see. I don't really have any clue what kind it is but it was probably about 1/2 inch long or so. I'm going to take it out to the garage now and spray it out. I'll bring my camera in case it pops out. I think I will wear gloves just in case as well.

You need to get one of these...tease the spyder a little by showing your a$$ around the PC and as soon as you see the spyder coming at you get the hell out of the house (make sure that sucker is following you)...come back in from the back door and lock yourself in.....that should do it...
