Anyone heard any information on a 585 being in the pipe?

Haven't found anything, but I have sold 2 of my 3 480's and don't want to upgrade to the 580's, and dont really want a dual chip. I am sure that kepler won't be out till at least late next year, so I am trying to find out what things nvidia might offer in the future before kepler.

I would like to see a 512 bit interface with 2gb vram, it sure would help @2560x1600 with 32x AA.

I doubt it, but it could happen, what I'm thinking is that the 500 series refresh is going to be finished, and then nvidia will push the Kepler series card release so they can put em out earlier or at least on time

I ask cause I am kinda getting excited about bulldozer and sandybridge. I am selling some of my stuff before prices bottom out totally.

My plan as insane as it may be is to have a totally new top of the line machine built by the time tombraider 9 releases. IE Sept 2011

If it looks like kepler is gonna be out aroudn that time or shortly after, I will wait for it. I gotta tell you though if the mess that happened with the 480's happen again, I don't know what I am gonna do.

Planned that Nvidia would release them around november, and waited another 5 months to get a hold of one while rocking a 9400! Hopefully kepler will be out around the end of the year, and nvidia will be back on track release timeline wise.

I'm guessing this might be it for the 500 series other than a dual GPU card and the lower end cards. This is the second 40nm chip and there is only so much performance they can squeeze out without a shrink to 28nm.

We are nearing the limit on die shrinks. Two or three more is it then they'll have to come up with another way to increase performance. Power limits are also near peak. I can't imagine them releasing a card over 300w unless it's a special edition.

I wanted to suggest the GTX 595, but I see you don't want a dual chip. I wouldn't mind have that card though.

The best way to tell what nVidiais planning will be from what AMD is planning since they are in competition, they don't make products just for the heck of it.  If you don't find any AMD counterpart to a ficticious "585", that doesn't mean it isn't in the works under some codename, just whatever it is hasn't leaked yet.  It usually takes several months to a year to produce something, so don't think it doesn't exist until you hear about it.

By the time we hear about it, they are in prototype/ES/alpha stage, something that was already planned to appear at some point.

It may not be too much longer to read about the GTX 585 since the 6990 and the GTX 595 have already been leaked.

I doubt we will see any single-GPU cards from Nvidia that are faster than the GTX 580 for awhile. The GF110 chip used for the GTX 580 doesn't have any parts disabled. (save the Tesla features like ECC, which mean nothing for gaming)
