Fugger stopped into Detroit to bench some 3DMARK VANTAGE with me on the EVGA SR-2 CLASSIFIED and EVGA's new NVIDIA 580GTX. Were gonna "keep pushin it" as Oliver would say

System specs:

Is it just me, or did the SR-2 make following extreme OC'ing more boring? It's like it's a board specifically constructed for benchmarks, it's like these new Ferraris that are "technically" the fastest road cars in the world - but when you buy them you're not allowed to keep them in your own garage, you're only allowed to drive them on specific racetracks etc.

I like that EVGA thinks about the benching community, i'm just saying i liked the good 'ol days better.

Its also a work station board.... if that board came out sooner I would had gotten one... like if it would had came out during the classified or shortly after... I understand for the delay to offer stat III/6 and usb 3.0 but meh that board is not aimed at you really its more for someone who does alot of work with thier cpu, or a benchers dream, or some insane gamer that just has to have the best.... like the classified its more than most need... but its for extreme ocers"who cannot go to or get their hands on an SR-2, Someone who does work/play that wants an amazing board for the best options/setup and quality... the other lower end boards do not give you the options on where to put cards, where to put your pcie 1x slot cards and so on that also do not want to dump the money on duel higher end xeons, or the xtreme gamer that wants the best but wants the best within reason... but yeah even the classified is a bit more with a ton of extras that most will not use/need.  I remember asking during the 680/780 mobo days an evga server board... that I could overclock with... and now here it is.... if I didnt have what I have now and my rare case I would had jumped on one... but having the case I have would had made spending the 1200 i did pointless to get my grubbies on it...

As for the scores awesome... and yup the GTX 580's need those volt mods, or the voltage portion of the GTX 480 to mod onto them for extreme ocs due to the GTX 580's design and limitations on extreme voltages on the voltage portion of its pcb. Since one guy did the franken mod on extreme systems with a single cpu socket mobo and a single GTX 580 w/ the 480's voltage section and got 40k... I bet kingpin if he did the crazy mod could possibly push the voltages maybe a bit higher on those gpus.

Holy crap, that is an impressive OC alright.

I did find it a bit amusing that kingpin has what $5000.00 in hardware there, Ln2 cooling and so on.  And, he is using an old MS keyboard that looks like it just came out of bank office?  I don't know, maybe its his old trusty sidekick.

    And Crysis?

    lol

Whats sad is now crysis should had been multi threaded from the get go... since it uses real time procedurals, not only is in cpu intensive on its own physics engine but its also having to deal with the real time procedurals, a mathmatical based texture, best combination though is a real time procedural mixed in with actual textures, but anyways. Crysis does not really fully utilize our hardware but look at what we had when it came out, pentium 4's, first gen core 2 Duos and Core 2 quads, with nvidia 6, 7 and 8 series cards still widly used. The ones with Core 2 Quads, alot of ram, and 8 series cards of course had the best fps requiring alot of overclocking on top of it.
Hopefully the cryengine 3 with crysis 2 will fully utilize our hardware and they didnt design it with the past hardware in mind, and didnt revise the cryengine 3 for optimization for consoles and low end machines...
