Sigh... I have $1300 and was thinking of going tri sli, but they diverted all of the 512 parts, and now the 480 truly is a 480. I'm not spending out top dollar to get a neutered part for the sake of a few months. I'll wait for the refresh and get 3 real Fermi GPU's, I imagine they will be called 485's and feature full cores.

I think just because they haven't made optimized driver yet. let's wait like 2 or 3 months until we can made a final conclusion.

compddd So the GTX 480 is meh? :( Not according to Guru3D. It was as expected. Takes more power and will generate heat...but the 480 beats the 5870 in most apps. In fact, if you read the conclusions on the various reviews...they all seem to come to the same verdict: Nvidia is back in the saddle. Of course, here is where I have to state what should be obvious: one size does not fit all. ATI customers have no real need to upgrade to Fermi. Existing customers who didn't upgrade w/ the ATI offerings now have the choice of two very good platforms. Ain't life grand? It is exactly what was predicted by the less emotionally driven members here. Very few surprises. I'll be keeping tabs on it of course...but for the most part...I've seen enough. IMHO, Nvidia delivered on what they promised. Now it's up to individual gamers to decide what's worth their hard earned money.

Not impressed at all from the hype. I mean yea good card but I thought it was going to kill the 5870 haha. Most the reviews I seen are on par with 5870. Sometimes beats by a few frames sometimes gets beat.

Only got through a few reviews but I think most of the reviews are coming to the same conclusion, excellent performance for the GTX 480, beating the 5870 and 295 consistently, and even coming close in many cases to the 5970 at the expense of increased heat and power consumption under load. Noticeably absent however is any real coverage of SLI or multi-GPU, I guess the reviewers didn't get enough samples from Nvidia and need to wait for 2nd, 3rd cards from board partners. I still need to take a closer look at the OCability and power consumption numbers, but its looking more and more like 2x470s for me and shoot for 480 clocks @ a $700 price point.

Out of the two reviews I have read (guru isn't one of them since the site is dead), they have a similar conclusion, GTX 480 is good but it doesn't smoke the 5870 as it was hyped up to do. The GTX 470 is at or below the 5850 in most cases as well. They did say the GTX 480 SLI had superior scaling compared to a single 5970 though and was without a doubt the best solution for the extreme gamer/enthusiast. The conclusion of the hardwarecanucks review: The GTX 480 isn’t necessarily a resounding success but we consider it to be a good stepping stone towards some much needed competition in the DX11 marketplace. It’s a great performer in exactly the areas where it will be most utilized while being backed up by an extremely respectable price. But, it just doesn’t deliver the much-needed knock-out blow to ATI’s offerings. The main problem we see is understandably high expectations which may be tempered by NVIDIA’s failure in two areas: to deliver a flagship product that fully utilizes the architecture’s full, 512-core potential and actually launch the card with real retail volume in Q1 2010. Instead, it looks like we will still be waiting to see what this architecture can really offer with 512 cores and potential customers may not get their cards for another two weeks. To us, this isn’t exactly the greatest way to kick off the next generation.

Let's see, a card that's 6 months late, too hot, 100 dollars more, subpar drivers (nvidia's lately), and similar performance to the competition? Get ready to have your backside handed to you Nvidia. This sucks, up until now I've been a dedicated customer... but, now I'm kind of disgruntled with Nvidia.

@ Chris Why's that? I have 280s and there's nothing I can't play. Doesn't seem logical that your getting upset over a video card. The performance is awesome both in the ATI and NVIDIA side. Can't understand what your ultimate goal is here.
