I just purchased a GTX 670 FTW and I believe the on board sound chip is having conflicts with my MSI Z77A-GD80 mobo's Realtek HD onboard sound chip.

My screen goes black after I boot into windows.  Is there a way to disable the sound on the GTX?  There isn't a sound plug on the GTX why does it even have a sound chip?  How does it work?  Does it send the signal through the mobo?

If I can't disable the sound on the GTX do I have to disable the sound on the MSI and buy a separate sound card?   Or.... ?

Thanks in advance because right now I'm hosed!

BTW I just confirmed that the problem is the audio conflict.  When I turned off the Realtek sound chip on the motherboard the card boots up great.

    IT'S SO FAST!!!!!!!

    Unfortunately I have no sound.

.... and problem fixed by turning off Nvidia High Definition Audio in Device Manager.

EVGA needs to have this in the FAQ somewhere because when a card goes black the first thing people think is that the card is bad... not audio chip conflict.

    Card works amazing now!!!

When you next update the drivers, do a clean install and then don't choose the Nvidia High Definition Audio or 3D option (unless you use that

    Problem solved  :)

Yeah, I've got a SoundBlaster onboard audio chip that I use and when I upgraded the drivers on my 680, I ONLY installed the PhysX and Graphics drivers. The Nvidia Audio driver caused me too many problems when it was installed previously. You can disable it in your Device settings, but it's much cleaner to not install it AT ALL!

If I were you, I would uninstall everything related to your Nvidia card in Add/Remove Programs, uninstalling the video driver last. When you reinstall the new driver, be sure to use the CUSTOM option when installing your driver and ONLY install the video driver and the PhysX driver, NOTHING ELSE. Things will work out much nicer.
