  • After flash remove the CD, and power off PC Completely.
  • Turn on the PC and load defaults in BIOS

USB FLOPPY Installation - Recommended installation method

Exactly WHAT CPU's is this adding, I know that the 780i already supports the standard core 2 CPU's, such as the Q9550 that I have, but what exactly does this add support for?  I'm obviously a tad confused.

Just as any other form of art, modding is a passion, not just a hobby.  We fawn over it, we love it, we hold it near and dear to our hearts, we are passionate about it.  We are modders, and we are artists.
Also, if you like any of the advice I give, please recommend I get a BR, thanks!

My system would not go to sleep with P08.

P09 fixed that but it either didn't come back from sleep or boot failed some wait state so it beeped and had to reset a few times for it to start.

    Hopefully this will fix it.

Is anyone else having problems with the new BIOS and sleep mode with Windows 7?

The system will goto sleep, wake out of sleep but it seems USB devices like my KB/M wont respond.

Looks like I will be going back to P08 since P09 also had this problem.

So this works for the 132-YW-E178-A1: Aka 780i FTW?
I just went to win 7 and want to update Everything. The Sleep thing doesn't bother me, as my Pc never sleeps.
    Anything else though?

Nope these BIOS are NOT for the 780i FTW.

Just go to Support then Download Drivers and BIOS and in the lists pick Mainboards > Bios Updates > E178 - EVGA 780i FTW (SZ17 is the latest bios for the 780i FTW).

If things are stable for you and you're having no bios-related issues, the traditional "if it's not broken, don't fix it" philosophy applies here.  I'm using p08 and have no plans to update unless I hear something miraculous about p10 which I doubt will happen.

I still have massive problems.  P08 wouldn't come out of sleep so I always ended up shutting down every time.

P09 and P10 sleep just fine but do not boot after the 4th or 5th try.  Either the keyboard is not detected or it get stuck before the disk init or it beeps all weird.  Everything goes back to normal after a few hard shut off and on but I doubt my disks are enjoying that.

I thought my bios battery was dead (this board is quite old now) and replaced that but didn't change a thing.

I may be going back to P08 :(

Regarding the sleep function, try turning of your HDD sleep, make your HDD's never sleep and see how you go.

Another fix is to turn on any screen saver.

We did both at the same time on my friends P09 780i and the keyboard/mouse no longer freeze when system comes out of sleep.

Seems this is a HDD problem.

I am guessing the new CPU support is for the following CPU's released this month:

The best one being the Q9500, just like the Q9550 but with only 6MB cache, still should oc well :)

    Re:EVGA 780i (NF78) - P10 BIOS Released 2010/01/26 19:42:38 (permalink)
Hmmm - glad I read through the threads.  Windows 7 x64 has had sleep issues on this 780i of mine for a long time - but with P09 they seemed to have disappeared - to a point - I can make it sleep, wake it up and everything is good - however, there are times when my machine will arbitrarily stop any running program if I click on it - at which time I am forced to reboot back into a normally working machine.

I had, until now, forgotten about the P09 'upgrade'.  If I get a chance I'll double check and see if some sort of OS instability is being cause by the BIOS itself (I might even go back to P08 as I just reinstalled the OS from scratch last week, to see if my Sleep issues return).

Since the only thing different (as listed in the OP) is CPU compatibility, I suppose if I find an issue with P09 it should (theoretically) be present in P10 as well, right?

    TW, thanks for the thread....

If you are in P08, does a stepped upgrade is required? or can you go straight to P10?

My system would not go to sleep with P08.

P09 fixed that but it either didn't come back from sleep or boot failed some wait state so it beeped and had to reset a few times for it to start.

    Hopefully this will fix it.

Apparently this went to complete failure to boot with code C1.  Trying to figure that one out right now.  Either ram chips are bad or mobo is dying.

When I get the C1 error I have to clear the CMOS them remove all my Ram and use a bog standard stick of ram that will operate at the mobos default ram voltage. When the system boots I can go into the Bios and up the Ram voltage, replace my Ram and all is good.

I have a silly newb question, if I where to go from P08 to P10 would that help with getting a higher FSB clock rate? Or would this mean if I wanted to try and find a Q9500, that I can just use that chip now?

Also I am sure it is just a Windows 7 issue but my internet likes to die out sometimes, does this update help that?

    Thanks

    Re:EVGA 780i (NF78) - P10 BIOS Released 2010/02/13 08:06:04 (permalink)
he Bios improvments/tweaks included in P09 and P10 are as follows:

    Improved Keyboard/Mouse compatibility.
Improved system stability when using NTune.
    Improves WHQL compatibility.
    Update GTLVref reporting.
    Corrected SLI memory CAS calculation.
    Improved GPU compatibility.
Fixed virtualization not being enabled after S3 resume.
    Updated PXE ROM.
Fixed compatibility with larger hard drives in RAID mode.
Fixed system hang with KB/MS in wrong PS2 port.
    Improved S3 resume.
    Improved S5 resume.
    Improved 8GB memory compatibility.
    Improved CPU Compatibility.

Achieving higher fsb speeds is dependent on your paticular board/CPU so the best way for you to find out is to test it for yourself, you can always revert to P08. I can't see anything in the listing above that would effect your interney connection, make sure you have your Modem/Router settings to "Always On" for starters.

Yet another update for the normal board and still nothing for the FTW which is the only board with no fix for the PCI-e issue...
One would expect the premium version to be better supported and not the other way around...

Isn't THAT the truth.  I spent a lot of money to "get the best" and can't get decent BIOS update support for it.  Heck, they don't even LIST THE BOARD as 780i SLI FTW in the support list, so it is very confusing as to what you should be downloading.  Do You download the SLI version, or the FTW version?  Or NEITHER????  SZ17 fixed some issues I was having, but I STILL have often sluggish issues with my mouse, and Win7 64 bit, with Raptor 10,000 RPM drives still only rates the drives at 5.3! Also, it would be nice if it worked with my Ballistix Tracer memory at 1066 Mhz instead of 800.  (5-5-5-15, 2.0 v)

But don't forget there are a lot more Evga customers using the 780i than the FTW version, plus the 780i was released prior to the FTW so it's not unreasonable to expect the 780i to get the first updates.

Indeed there are more 780i users and I didn't suggest that the board should have worse support than the FTW. I was merely suggesting that the lack of a BIOS fix for the FTW is even outside the stereotype.

The fix I am talking about (non-video PCI-e cards) has been introduced for motherboard models newer than the 780 FTW. Actualy it's the only affected board (AFAIK) that doesn't have this fixed via BIOS and we have to use the Hackflags workaround (which causes a couple of other minor issues).

I am seriously tempted to disassemble the BIOS modules from both boards and fix it myself when I get enough free time. I have an EEPROM programmer handy in case I mess it up somehow...but with my luck I'll spend a couple of months working on it and they'll release it when I'm almost done:p

also remember that this is a nvidia reference bios, not a evga only bios.
