BIOS 71 Updates:
  • VREG Temperature “Quick Fix”*
*This update is a “Quick Fix” for the high VREG temperature that is displayed when the system is under load, the high temperature displayed (over 100c) is not an accurate reading, the actual operating temperature on average load is between 52-67 degrees Celsius, idle around 40c. EVGA will also offer a “Complete Fix” for those who desire very precise readings. For those who want this option, EVGA will provide an Advanced RMA (EAR) to provide a corrected board with minimum downtime free of charge for those who want the “Complete Fix.”

If you wish to sign up for the “Complete Fix” please send an email to E768UPDATE@EVGA.COM with your registered serial number, replacement boards will start shipping the week of the 14th via overnight delivery.

Sorry if I am not supposed to post here but when will the "complete fix" boards be shipping from retailers?  I have this board in my shopping cart but I was waiting for news of this fix.  I could always buy it and then do the BIOS update but I would like to know all my options.  Thanks for the quick update on this issue I am really impressed.

Interesting, guess now I know it's not my cooling that is struggling to cool Vreg down, will there be a fix for the 3way SLI series?

I'm glad now the UPS lady missed me - I'm going to sit out the RMA shuffle (even if it is advanced).   I'm not a fan of installing, removing, installing a board if I don't absolutely have to.

Apologies to whomever gets the sealed one going back to newegg today.

I believe it is only the new FTW3 ( 768 )  boards that are having this issue...

Why not just accept the board, do not install, take the offer of the advanced rma with next day delivery ( next week ), and get one with the complete fix? Unless of course you need a new board sooner than that...

well I'd like to see what the complete fix means.  If its a hand job(I know I know) versus an actual slipstream assembly line change that makes a difference to me. I'm thinking its a manual 1 by 1 thing as assembly lines dont move that quick.   I have another system (macbook pro) which I'm posting from now since my PC is down for a new board.

That being said, what else is being done on the 'complete fix'?

I would like to know this too. I'm looking into buying this board from newegg but I want to weigh my options since I can wait up to a month before making the purchase.

    Hey gang,

I was one of the early ones to get this board and started the thread on the high vreg temps.
I have flashed to this bios, and they look much better - much more consistant now, and not jumping all over the place. Just did a couple of passes in LinX, my min vreg temp at desktop idle was 51c, max was 67c under full load running LinX. Much better! Assuming them to be somewhat accurate, well within reasonable limits.

I did run in to one issue after flashing to this bios, I lost 2gb of my ram. I remembered reading on these forums one suggestion was to change the MCH Strap option in the bios, from "auto" to " dram ratio". I changed mine , and got my 6gb  of ram back. Thought I would mention in case any of you run into this same issue.

I would also like to know when Newegg will be selling the board with the "complete fix" since I plan on buying this soon.

The only issue I have had with this board is that CPU z and Everest do not show the correct core voltage. Says the core is at .9v which isn't really possible with it set at 1.34 in the BIOS. All speed step related features are off and CPU z report core running at 4GHz

Edit: My older version of Everest does show an "Aux" temp being at 124C. There is nothing in the case so hot that I cannot touch it so this is obviously inaccurate. I'm guessing it's the VREG glitch they are talking about.

I do think I'm going to add a fan to the NB. It is a bit warm. Almost too hot to touch. IOH at 1.2V
