Why is my high capacity 2TB+ Drive not listed correctly in the BIOS?

Any Drive over 2TB in volume can have issues with the standard bios system.  It is a limitation of the BIOS system itself and therefore would not be fully recognized or utilized as a boot drive in the BIOS.  In some cases this can be as minor as just mis-listing the capacity fo the drive which once in a GPT supporting OS you should see the full capacity of the drive when formatted with GPT.  The only Native motherboard firmware that presently supports over 3TB Drives for OS install and GPT partition is EFI/UEFI Bios which is integrated on the newly announced EVGA P67 Lineup of motherboards.

 

In order to utilize the full volume of 3TB drives on present BIOS motherboards,  a OS install would need to be created on a smaller than 2TB drive and within the OS the 3TB+ Drives can be partitioned Using GPT to fully utilize the drives capacity.

 

If looking to do large drive arrays with high capacity drives (2TB+) it would be recommended to look into a third party controller card to ensure full capacity allocation and usage.
