Product Description

Not content to merely shatter records and competition in the consumer market, the EVGA SR-3 DARK merges two extreme performance lines of EVGA motherboards to bring balance to the force with exceptional performance and engineering. Featuring the Inte C622 chipset, hexa-channel memory support, 24 phase power design, 16-lyer PCB, dual-10GbE LAN ports, a waterblock to passively or actively cool the DARK's VRM, and so much more, this board is packed with everything and is still compact enough to fit in afull E-ATX form factor. The SR-3 DARK also contains 5. 1 Channel Creative Audio, onboard power/reset/CMOS buttons, PCIe disable switches, triple BIOS support, and 8 smart fan headers. Elegant and beautiful motherboard, but...

Elegant and beautiful motherboard, but...
Not only does it look good, it also doesn't have an active fan like the ROG Dominus Extreme, so it can be operated quietly. The W-3175X has 28 cores, which makes it a bit lackluster compared to the 32 phase of other motherboards. The SR-3 DARK uses a 24 phase VRM and four 8-pin EPS to distribute load and reduce the load on the power supply circuit (10 A per EPS lane during full operation - total 40 A).For the ordinary people who doesn't overclock too much in practice, this is what the company calls "A uniquely designed passive VRM cooler will do without water cooling". I don't know if ordinary people will get it.Despite the passive cooling, the PWM (VRM) temperature stays within 100 degrees even at 100% CPU utilization with a room temperature of 29 degrees. This is a good enough performance. The original heat sink is also connected to the PCH, but the temperature of the PCH is also below 70 degrees even though the graphics card is on top in the SLI configuration. It is a very excellent thin heat sink. Another factor is that, unlike the products of other companies, almost all of them are composed of tantalum capacitors. The on-board device is 10 Gigabit Ethernet with Intel's X557-AT2, and the audio is Creative Media's Sound Blaster Recon 3Di for extensive configuration. Unfortunately, sharing PCIe lane/slots with onboard devices results in a noticeable lack of bandwidth. For example, with X557-AT2 enabled (default BIOS setting), cards in PCIe slot #4 (the fifth slot on a normal motherboard) are limited to 8x operation. Similarly, if you enable the U.2 connector, PCIe slot #1 is limited to 8x bandwidth. This is also fatal.(But Intel C622 uses 8x bandwidth - it is normal spec)In other words, it exposes the stupid fact that when you enable a two U.2 or X557-AT2, it limits your video card's bandwidth to 8x. In addition, the W-3175X also has 48 lanes, but this limitation can't be helped and the number of lanes cannot be used up. The only thing you can do is to switch between enable and disable each time you use it. It's troublesome. Also, the number of USB 2.0 and 3.0 pin header on-board is only one at a time, and there is no USB 3.1 connector for the latest Type-C, so it is not as good as the Dominus Extreme. Of course, there is no RGB. Keep in mind that this is a simple configuration. So while it looks like the board's performance and functions are perfect, you'll be disappointed to find that it's not fully usable. Another point, you can see the white LED and post code is so very clearly. And we were able to use the large memory capacity of 32 GB each slots, and the 16 Gbit M-die module from SK Hynix was recognized. You will also see 192 GB in the upper left corner of the UEFI BIOS screen (using 3 pair G.Skill F4-2666C18D-64GTRG).(2020/12/23 postscriptG.Skill's F4-4000C18D-64GTRG worked 3 pairs 6 sticks. The BIOS is still the same as it was purchased with the 1.05. However, the CL18 seems to be difficult to operate, so I lowered the CL to 20 and adjusted the voltage to 1.35V to make it operate very smoothly. Although it has 6slots, I am satisfied with the large capacity of 192GB and the high-speed operation of 4000MHz.)(2021/2/3 postscriptFeature [Re-Size BAR] was implemented on day 1/29/2021 - BIOS 1.0.6. Very fast support. The important product - graphics card - has not been supported yet, but with this speed, I think we will be able to handle it soon. But the big problem is that we don't have any stock of RTX 3000 series.)The rest is the price. It's too expensive $1799.--------------------p.s. Strictly speaking, with the RTX 2080 Ti graphics card, the bandwidth of the NVLink SLI HB interconnect is quite wide, 100 GB/s over a two-link connection, allowing the transfer of huge amounts of data without going through PCIe. As you can see, even with the 8x lanes, the bus utilization rate is less than 10% - using EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID GAMING.So I don't really feel like it, but I think there's almost nothing wrong with running both PCIe #1 and #4 at 8x and enabling all the onboard devices. So from that point of view, it's a more luxurious device than the ROG Dominus Extreme or the C621 AORUS XTREME, and you'll be more satisfied. For your reference, the graphics card monitoring during WQHD-SSAA/16xS mode, actual gameplay/uncompressed recording at 5K(5120*2880), shows that bus utilization on the lower right is hardly moving up. EVGA may have made this design in anticipation of that. It's still an elegant, beautiful and versatile motherboard, so you'll be happier if you don't care about the fine details.
