Apparently PALIT didnt do their homework when overclocking their 580's and now has to recall them.

I would hate to be one of the customes that got this message

Dear customer

Thank you for purchasing Palit product.

We found few GPUs seem have unstable status in factory clock so we issue the recall notice.
Most of the GTX 580 Sonic products don't have such an issue but we rather to have more conservative consideration so we issue the recall notice.
Please contact your vendor to proceed further recall steps.
Thanks.

Funny I was just checking out their vanilla version on Newegg. Sharp looking card IMO.
I wonder on the Sonic, voltage too low? It's a reference design that should hit the mark otherwise right?

ouch, that sucks, but this does belong in hardware/software news. but forums post is not really enough. Not saying its not happening just surprised some reviewer has not jumped on top of this. Its also why most of us go with EVGA...
At least they are doing something about it, got to give them that, and doing something right away.

I dunno that just seems strange,  almost like they just figured you can just shove the clock up and it will be fine.

seems like Quality control failure

This is what matters IMHO.  People makes mistakes.  They are saying they made a mistake and are fixing it.  A+ in my book

One of the famous finnish overclocker said, that they had some problem on their OC card´s bios, that their fan was too late to kick more speed when needed.

Yet you would be even more pissed if your card burned up and they had never done this.

I say kudos to them for stepping up to the plate because we know some vendors likely would have just played hush-hush.
