GPU3/Fermi projects p6800 and p6811 on adv by yslin » Wed Nov 10, 2010 9:36 pm
Hi,

There will be two new GPU3/Fermi projects 6800 and 6811 on adv soon:
P6800 is our second-stage sampling of the amyloid beta peptide.
P6811 presents our first attempt to sample the configurations of a prion protein.
Please note that P6811 has the largest number of atoms ever (2150 atoms) for a GPU3/Fermi project. Donors with low/medium-end GPUs may notice a significant difference in PPD since low/medium-end GPUs may not perform well relative to high-end GPUs as system size increases.

Points and deadlines:
    P6800 -- 1298 points, preferred deadline 4 days, final deadline 10 days
    P6811 -- 7202 points, preferred deadline 13 days, final deadline 18 days

Thanks!

yslin

Grrrr I really don't like these!  I'm workn on a 6811 and my temp went up to 66c.  Thats the highest I've ever seen my gpu temps thus far.  Normally I'm in the mid to low 50's or less.  On top of my ppd went from 15k to 11k with these new WU's!

My PPD was cut in half, from 13K to 6.5K. :(

I don't mind the larger WU's. In fact I would rather prefer them but not if it's going to cost in points drop. This is terrible, I do hope they adjust the scale.

    Quick question:
My GTS 450 is running at 79C (runs 71C with 925), what is the Max temp for this card?
    Should I be concerned?

all 3 of my 470's picked up these work units, about the same ppd as the 611wu but about 8c hotter than the 912/925wu on water

I've been getting 6800's for a couple days straight now on a 460sc and the temps aren't too bad for me. better than my old 5770 i had by about 10c. ive gotten my tpf down to 1:33 with a bit of overclocking. still waiting to get a 6811 though sounds like it will be a lot of fun

I've got my temps under control. Currently 69*C on stock 480 and 60*C on a mild OC'd 465. TPF is 1:51 and 1:20.

I have not gotten any of these WUs yet, un/fortunately. Have any of you had these reject overclocks the other wus ran fine on? I am debating on whether or not to back my gtx 460 down from 900/1800mhz.

I've been able to complete majority of mine. I do see that a couple have failed but I haven't gone back in the logs to see why. My GTX460 @ 1500 shaders haven't had any errors and currently doing fine temp wise (62*C @ 43% fan) TPF 1:55.

I think it would be cool if they released something simmilar to -bigadv to the GPU's like you need a couple fermis in SLI or something.

I finally had to take off the -advmethods flag, I had failed 21 WU's on my 470 with a slight oc of 1450. Most failed toward the end too. I'll chip away at the small wu's

    Re:Headsup: I picked up 6800 & 6811 WU's! 2010/11/15 10:05:23 (permalink)
I woke up to my 470 having a fit with the 6811 because it was at 103*C with 60% fan (just enough to keep the noise down). The card fan was pulsing to keep from melting. I'm now running at 80% fan (85*C) which is tolerable. I've got a bigadv running (71k) and this gpu whopper (7k) using 625W so I think I'll oneunit my 9800 for a bit.

The thing about the gpu whoppers is that it seems the PPD is the same with higher wattage. What's the insentive to run the advmethods these days? I mean there are other wus to process and they all have to get done so I'm also thinking of unchecking the advmethods on my fermi and let you folding farms with your flux capacitors and 1.21 jigiwatts handle the whoppers.

I took my -advmethods off a few days ago when these wus started, but now I'm running two without the flag, so it looks like they might be on general release now.

Edited to add - My first one just nan'd at 17%.  I haven't had any wu nan yet on my 460 until now.

Absolutely no CPU usage with them according to Process Lasso, which is good for my SMP but I'm wondering if I should dedicate three cores to the GPUs now, instead of my current two, with this in mind?

LOL.....sorry but you need not feel alone. Look at my production in the hourly graph. Looks like I fell off a cliff!!!! Resetting all my clocks back to factory to avoid errors. BUT we knew it was coming........
This is why Ive been keeping an eye on the 465s/ mid to high end folder with out the high price, looks like its at EOL but you can get them for $170 shipped. Its cheaper than a 460 and seems to handle these 6800 series not to bad.

I know, but there were people with "high end" GPUs complaining that the 430s/450s/460s were out performing them and that the points these GPUs were getting were "undeserved" It looks to me that they are steering towards the expensive side of GPU folding.

Shouldn't you be going down to one core not upto three?

I'm running 2 gpu3s on only one core of my i7. The 6800s are only using 2% cpu each compared to anywhere from 4-7% each on the 912/925s

    That is strange Z3ro,
My 450s are set @925/1850 (the only ones I havent reset yet) running smoothly *knock on wood* no errors. Im running a SMP on the rig with a AMD 445 X3 @3.1 mhz  no Process Lasso, just letting them run and take what they want. And to make it even sweeter for my situation the SMP TPF drops around 10 minutes!! It went from a 21-22 TPF to 11:36!!

    Which uses more watts a oc'd 260 or a oc'd 450. the reason I'm asking is that a 260 wu is about 7900ppd and it looks like a 450  is about 7600ppd.

    P10112 7904ppd 1.5 hrs.to complete 494pts GTX260
    P6811 A little over 7202ppd. about 22 hr.s to complete (guessing) on a 450.
