Dude, you must realize that NV is ALWAYS working on the next thing. A die shrink of GF100 is surely on the way. If you are in the hardware game, like we all are, you have to be prepared for new tech. I for one welcome our 28nm overlords....

I hear ya, my 480's won't be available for step up either. But I have have been a long time EVGA customer that has never taken advantage of the step up program. If you are an early adopter of new tech you have to realize the step up program isn't for you. If you buy new cards at launch (or close to) you can't expect them to do anything for you. I have bought new cards at launch for the last few generations and all I do is sell my cards and buy the new ones. Really it's not that big a deal, sure you lose a bit of money, but that is the cost of being on the cutting edge. For instance recently, I had 2x 280's that I bought on launch day. When the 285's came out, I sold my 280's and bought 3x 285's. Then I sold those in anticipation of the 480s and rocked a 260 while I waited. Then I bought 2x480's. Next I will sell those 480's and buy 2x485's or whatever, because I want the newest cards. But really no one says you have to upgrade, its all personal preference. If you can deal with having the older cards than it's no problem. It;s just that I have an addiction to graphics cards than can never be satisfied, and that's my issue. You have to learn that there is ALWAYS something new coming.

It's definitley fake, but you can bet your bottom dollar that a die shrink of GF100 is coming sooner rather than later....

Are you satisfied with your 480? If so, then it doesn't matter. Did you buy it to have the best out, or to get the performance offered?

What is stopping you from enjoying your cards? You are in no way obligated to sell and or upgrade your cards. I understand the want for the newest cards, but if you aren't willing/ and or/ able to sell you cards, there is nothing stopping you from rocking those cards until you feel the need/or can afford/  for new ones. Please don't hope against new cards just because you are a new owner of 400 series cards. When new cards come out it doesn't make the cards you own perform any worse :)

I for one am completely happy with my 470's, I faced the music a loooooong time ago that new hardware for pc's is always gonna come out fast, more so than how fast consoles are released, that is the realm we all stepped in when we became pc enthusiasts we all should know that.

i am enjoying now :) but when i find new cards in the market i like to get it to have the full power of any game on the highest settings , the same applies as i had GTX 285 and it was doing great on all games but when the fermi cards appeared i couldnt help myself , i could have got the GTX 470 but i looked for the best of the line GTX 480 ..but i think if they r already moving fast in NVIDIA to make GTX 485 or GTX 495 even if this news r fake i am sure they will appear in the end of the year , so i will stick on my GTX 480n till a game comes that need me to upgrade ...

Agreed that's about how I upgrade my hardware, if my hardware can run the games I like to play to my liking then their is no need for me to upgrade, but the moment a game comes out that I wanna play and can't enjoy it with the hardware I have then it is time to upgrade.

u r right , but always the new cards dazzels the eyes and the need to feel your hardware is always the best among others make u feel the need of upgrade :)) as for me sticking with things as it is ..till nvidia produces the complete 512 fermi

Dude, you must realize that NV is ALWAYS working on the next thing. A die shrink of GF100 is surely on the way. If you are in the hardware game, like we all are, you have to be prepared for new tech. I for one welcome our 28nm overlords....

i agree with the quick turns of technology but u need to earn alot of money to shift between 2  highly expensive cards in just couple of months window time !! and as i said before till now i didnt enjoy my card to the limit :(( ..to put in mind i am not USA resident so i cant take benifit of the step up porgrams EVGA do :(((

What causes that?  I'd like to know so I can seek treatment....

I spent 3 years with dual 260's... Played everything I wanted at max settings. Now that dx11 has come out and 3d vision is here, I upgraded in order to be able to do the same. Unless anyone can find a game that dual 480's can't play, I will be keeping these about 3 years as well.

    Edit: 2 years.

The GTX 480 is a power house card. I don't see me changing until a DX change happens.

Realism - thats almost a pleseant change :)
I Do a similar thing (not moved to 480 yet though current job not paying enough), When I buy the latest gen, I recycle the previous model down the family chain so I hav 2 X 8800 in family PC's that only play WOW a 280 in a gaming machine and a 285 folding sometime 1 as a spare  :)

It's definitley fake, but you can bet your bottom dollar that a die shrink of GF100 is coming sooner rather than later....

I guess that really depends what you consider sooner or later.  If "Sooner" is < 6 months, I'd take that bet, as 28nm die shrinks won't be available until 2011 (32nm was canned completely) at the earliest, and may get pushed back even further.  Same process limitation is stalling ATI's plans to counter GF100, which is why rumor has it they've shift their roadmap to 40nm Southern Islands as a bridge to their 28nm Northern Islands.

I see no need to jump on the next card usless it does something I can't currently do in the games I play. DX 11 gaming just bearly started. 2-3 years is probably my sunset for these cards.

Although I agree with you in theory I still expect Nvidia is behind for the next step as well.  I have read a few articles about die shrink and there are just no guarantees a shrink will result in better yields or a better product quickly.  This is true for both Nvidia and ATI.  ATI caught a break by introducing the 4770 which taught them a lot about the poor 40nm performance.  I for one do hope they move to something smaller quickly as I want both camps to have better yields from each wafer as that will bring down cost.

The 485 won't come out until the 480 sells start to go down to much. But till that time nVidia might just be working on the 485 to be as good as it can be till they will have to eventually release it.
I say nVidia already has die shrinked chips that they are testing.

    die shrink

    die shrink...

all of you salivating over a die shrink has lost your ever loving minds.

there's no way a die shrink is coming before next year. they've barely got enough 32nm processes up to turn right around and refab to 28 or 22?

some of you worry me. the tech isn't in place and won't be for about year to manufacture this at market scale.

If you only buy  what you need, then you wont end up feeling this way.
I still have no reason to upgrade, the games I play do not need any thing more.
