Eh sounds like it's going to be a carbon-copy of what MSI and Asus already offers.

Very cool! My thoughts have always been that a laptop is only as good as it's warranty. I wish they made them so you could replace individual components easily (not so proprietary) as well as upgrade parts.

I believe a few companies like Alienware tried that in the early 2000s but it never took off.

Wonder if they're using the same 4K panel as the one in my laptop (17.3" AUO 4K 100% AdobeRGB 60hz Display).

Although a single 980m will struggle @ 4K. I have two, they make it just to be able to play @ 4K in my games.

    Alienware Area-51M Laptop: Intel Core i9-9900K @ 5.3Ghz | nVidia GeForce RTX 2080
    Alienware Aurora R4 Desktop: Intel Core i9 10980XE | nVidia Titan V
    Alienware M18xR2 Laptop: Intel Core i7 3920XM @ 4.7Ghz | nVidia Quadro RTX 3000
    Alienware X14 Laptop: Intel Core i7 12700H | nVidia GeForce RTX 3060

I kind of wish they would have aimed at 2k rather than 4k, simply so the 980m can push it much better. Should be easy enough to run it at 2k by changing the resolution.

It is a very nice looking laptop and pricing is what I am curious about as well.

Just glancing at Newegg, a gaming laptop with similar specs is between $1600 and $2800 depending on exact options. So I would expect it to fall somewhere in there. I also hope that this isn't like the EVGA ram where it's exclusive to 1 retailer that not everyone can access. Although I would expect them to go with Newegg as a stand alone retailer if they do that. Unless they were to make it available online as well as in store through Micro Center. Guess we will have to wait an see. Also excited to see what the cost is on the full tower they announced as well.

I was hoping for a full fledged GTX-980 and not a nerfed 980m. Others have done it so I know it's possible.

The great thing about MXM graphics boards is that they are often upgradeable. Hopefully EVGA chose a MXM standard instead of soldering the 980m to the motherboard.
The CPU, memory, and disk drive are almost always upgradeable as well.

A full-fledged desktop graphics card would make the laptop much larger, heavier, louder, and power outlet dependant. Mobile boards are very good at what they do.
The GTX 980M has 27% less performance than the GTX 990M (GTX 980 "Notebook") but operates at around 122 watts instead of the GTX 980 Notebook's 170 to 200 watt range.

I thought the whole idea behind a gaming laptop was portability for LAN parties and gaming events so a 120vac power outlet shouldn't be an issue unless you plan on laying in bed at night trying to play a game while keeping warm under the covers. LOL

Its hard to do when everything has to be so small and crammed together to remain a "laptop".

    See my edit above.
The 980M is 30-40% more power efficient for 27% less performance. It makes the product quieter, cooler, and lighter. The 4K display is overkill either way and I don't think the difference in GPU would make any difference in that regard.

I don't know about the lan party thing. I have never done that. I don't think most people do that. I do know that people like me who work all over the place for a living like a laptop that is light, moderately power efficient, but still powerful. You don't always want to game and you can't always find an outlet.

Laptops are rarely marketed as upgrade-friendly even if they are easy to upgrade. I have upgraded a few of the laptops which I have owned. None of them were advertised as easy to upgrade. My current laptop has over $1400 in upgrades installed in it; including the graphics board.

Next up on the drawing board is the optional battery pack for extended playing time!

pricing will be the determining factor. Hopefully its not bloated in price like Razer's crap.

You have to do something inside during those long brutal Minnesota winters.  Might as well update your laptop.

All kidding aside - opening the laptop to do the upgrade is usually the hardest part; deciding what to do with all the leftover screws and cables is the next hardest.

Can you provide a direct link so that I can access the HTML5 version?  EVGA's forum embeds it as Flash (which I have disabled) so therefore I just see a broken plugin box.
