ok,

Bios A56, overclocked to 3.6 gigs with 8 Gigs of ram
PSU 850 Watts
i7 860

is it normal for my board at startup when press ON on the case and boot twice ?  I mean to say that, once the computer is ON it quickly does a quick reboot as a start at the beginning before going into to P55 screen than Post.  However, it boots fine to the desktop.

Is this normal ?

e.g. as if ON then OFF then ON through the post into windows...

Supposedly if you have the newast bios and your boards  Bclk is under 200 ,you can disable the dual boot/ clock calibration.

I cant confirm this though as my P55-FTW doesn't get here till tomorrow.

A56 was the first bios with that feature, go to the frequency tab and find ClockGen and Disable it. No more double boot.

Yes, update to A59. To turn off the double boot disable the clockgen, but I advise you to keep it on.

Disable CLOCKGEN on the overclocking page.

Make sure your PCIe is on default.  If your bclock is 200 or greater then leave CLOCKGEN enabled.

Could you elaborate just a little bit here? I assume that Shamino and company have this clock gen reset for a good reason. However, I'm using a SS phase cooler and due to its own turn on circuit, I have to restart it every time the clock gen cycles.

So, why specifically do you advise to keep it on?

It's not life or death really.  Having it enabled means more precise clock frequencies so you get the exact speed you dial in.  Disabled means the clock can vary by a small percentage especially at greater overclock.  It is safe for you to disable it though.

A tech can go into detail about it but the main reason is that since there are dual clock gens (CPU and PCI-E) the dual boot is to synchronize them for better performance and stability.

The option to disable it is only allowed with a Bclk of under 200; anything higher the board won't even let you disable it cause.. well, it's for the sake of performance and stability.
