Over on FoldingForums.org, some have gotten them to work with the older v6.41 client.

Also, Vijay has let it be known in the DAB that they are currently working on the new core(s) to support the 6XX series, but there is no ETA at this time.

yes but it seems it only recognizes it as a 560
.ie its only recognizing 1 cluster - 384 cores

Will try the suggestion by rjbelans.  384 cores isn't bad, considering I've been folding on 0...

Good, but not great. The great news will be the release of the Kepler optimized core(s).

hello, I'm new to this forum, and normally "lurking" from google.   I fold for Techimo.

Anyway I've been waiting patiently for my GTX 680 step up queue from my just acquired GTX 580.  I'm hoping it does more output in folding@home then the GTX 580.

I read that there is a new GPU3 client in the works.. and I'm hoping to see some benchmarks for me to either pull the plug on the step up or go ahead with.   My only concern is I've been hearing rumors about the GTX 680 only doing the output of a 560 Ti even though there are 1536 cores in other distributed computing projects, like Mining.

You can get this work if you add the latest gpu.txt file into the data folder but it folds horribly. You'll be lucky to get 500 points every 3 hours so let's hope the new GPU client comes soon.

how much do you guys predict the 680 can do on current Project 803x units?

25K? 30K?

Set client-type beta. You will get core 16 which will work fine. If you already have a core 15 work unit which is stuck make sure you delete it. Gets about 12,600 PPD which is crappy but better than nothing.

Impossible to say really since this is a whole new architecture. If other GPGPU results are any indication it would fold less than a GTX 580, maybe less than a 570. But you know that could only apply to other work since Folding is directly related to CUDA. Only a new client will let us know for sure.

anything less than 30 would be shameful...
my gtx 570 can do 23ish, oced around 26ish , gtx 580 can do 26ish , oced gtx 580 can do 28.5ish

if they sacrifies gpgpu performance/CUDA for pure gaming, thats a half a step backwards... the core already overclocks ALOT less then memory which is means they have pushed the core to its limit by default.

in next few months intresting results will be coming

Wow you have a monster 570 then. Mine ran 17K at stock and about 20K when overclocked. I think you may be referring to the best possible scenario with one of those small 10000-15000 work units.

I'm also interested. I tried to put it on V7 clients configuration "extra core options" on expert tab, but didn't work.

OK, I finally got it... here's what you do:

Must use V7 client in expert mode.  Follow THESE instructions first, then...
1) Start the V7 client, pause the GPU client(s) if running.
2) go to 'Start' > 'All Programs' > 'FAHClient' > 'Data Directory' [it links directly to data location], then dbl click 'work' and delete your GPU-related directories.  The directories are those with names '00', '01', etc, which match your 'Work Queue' number on the V7 client expert main page.  Be sure you do not delete any CPU or non-680 directories.
3) go back to the V7 client and click 'Configure', dbl click the first 680 GPU entry (repeat for other 680's as necessary)
4) scroll down to 'Extra slot options (expert only)' and look for an Add button on the lower right and click it.
5) under 'Name:' enter "client-type" and under 'Value:' enter "beta", click OK
6) Return to main V7 screen, look under 'Folding Slots' and for each GPU right-click > 'Fold'
7) If they don't start properly just restart the folding client.

I'm doing 20k PPD on the stock clocks of my reference card.  WU 8019 at 8% so far.

Hundred Million thanks! Because this is the first and only tutorial how to get GTX680 fold, you surely deserve a big thanks -or a ribbon!

Your post should be a sticky, in my opinion. There are many others who are disappointment because they can't fold and wait for future updates for clients or drivers or both. And it can take a months.
