There are several threads running around on various areas of the EVGA forums saying that the new drivers 196.21 do not work with EVGA Precision or other third party overclocking apps. We are aware of this and we ask that everyone be patient for a while or go back to an older driver for a short time.

I'm glad to see EVGA is on the case working on a fix. I'm not going to sweat it. I'll just keep an eye on this thread for the good word.

    Latest Update from Unwinder

"I've just peeked into issue a bit deeper. The driver uses different domain IDs when reporting and when setting new clocks so it sounds like a bug in the driver and not an intentional overclocking interface evolution. Bugreport is filled and sent to NVIDIA."

What's the latest Precision version that will work with the 196.21 drivers?

EDIT: Nevermind - didn't read the first post correctly.

The only good thing bout the new driver is the SLI support for Dirt 2, other than that my Vantage score went down again... Oh Nvidia... are you ever gonna get it right or should i just go with ATI???

does anyone of you have problem during the installation? Because It crashed twice during the installation. First, It showed black screen --> I had to reboot my computer. Second, It froze during the installation--> The process bar kept staying at the same spot--> I had to reboot my computer. I have 2 gtx 285 and Win. 7 64 bit and the driver I downloaded is for the windows 7 64 bit.

I need this driver for StarTrek Online to work and I need to underclock to keep my card working. I found that using the Nvidia performance panel it is possible to apply saved clock profiles despite the fact the current clock screen is wonky.

most my games run maxed too on just a single GTX 260 lol, so I don't overclock either. I'm gonna eventually have another GTX 260 for SLI to help anyway for future game titles.

Wonder if this has anything to do with the change in clock domains coming with GF100?  Maybe Nvidia pulled the trigger early and started making some of their changes.  Anyways, sounds like Unwinder and EVGA already have a strong lead on a fix, thanks again for the great support of a great utility.

I was just loving these drivers..... every single game i've tried works very well...
i dont use precision tool for overclocking, i use Nvidia System Tools.... and not even their own software works !
Nvidia fixes something and messes something else up.... GreaT! Thanks Nvidia!

as for now im gonna stay with these drivers even though i cant overlock... atleast my games run okay. not like 195.62!

Unwinder sent the new code for both Precision and Afterburner to respective companies. AB 1.5.0 Beta 5 is up already and I think we should see the Precision update very soon...
It's a temporary workaround till Nvidia corrects the bug...

I think I've found a bug also that will let you overclock on them
If you install these over another set without uninstalling and using driver sweeper then you should be able to overclock on these new drivers
It's what I did and I'm able to overclock on both my cards and they're holding steadily while folding

    What did you do?
Uninstall all the drivers on your system use driver sweeper then install the 195.81 and then the 196.21 over them and see if that works

It's what i did and now I'm able to overclock

I did a straight install right over the 195.81 and the ability to OC was gone. I wouldn't have replied if I'd done something different from what you described. Using the usual driver install method doesn't work either. I supplied Unwinder with the debug info and he identified what was changed in the driver. So unless unless in your case 196.21 were not installed correctly, you should not have OC control.

It is known, however Unwinder, the developer behind Precision and Afterburner, found a "bug" where this driver messes up in domain (device?) ID management. So, it's not because they changed something and the apps couldn't handle: there is a "bug"...

i think ther is something poeple are forgeting, nvidia doesnt make drivers around evga percision , evga percision get writen around nvidia drivers . so in my opinion they should be working on the latest evga percision, and will there at it maybe they could give logitech g13 support

However, NVIDIA make their own NVIDIA System Tools (formely known as nTune), which also completely lost clock control. So like it or dislike it, but it is indeed ForceWare's own issue (easily fixable though). And yes, while there is no fix from NVIDIA side yet we can update the Precision and force it to use the same bugged domain IDs like the driver is expecting when 196.21 is detected. So the overclocking will work.

So, it's not because they changed something and the apps couldn't handle: there is a "bug"...

Well, yes and no.  It sounds like NVidia did change something and the apps can't handle it, but that *is* the bug.
