Just got one of my 2 new 680 classys in and it looks like the EVbot plug is missing. There was no damage to the box and it doesnt look like it was snapped off...just looks like it wasnt installed. I confirmed the model# matches whats listed on EVGA's site so unless very confused. The package was sealed and so was the seal on the static bag of the video card.

Uhhh....thoughts?

Just look like bad QA on that card. Call up EVGA and you will have to RMA it to get a new one. At least I doubt that part is just a plug in type thing.

You can still OC it with software.  You can use precision or many other programs.

Is there a reason for this?

It was removed in order to 100% comply with NVIDIA guidelines for selling GeForce GTX products, no voltage control is allowed, even via external device.

    EDIT:
Here is the official NVIDIA response:

Some of our best and most passionate customers have told us (though forums, partners and directly) that they are frustrated with our position on GPU Overvoltaging.  So we feel that it is important to explain exactly what our position is and why we feel that it is important.

We love to see  our chips run faster and we understand that our customers want to squeeze as much performance as possible out of their GPUs.  However there is a physical limit to the amount of voltage that can be applied to a GPU before the silicon begins to degrade through electromigration (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromigration).  Essentially, excessive voltages on transistors can over time "evaporate" the metal in a key spot destroying or degrading the performance of the chip.  Unfortunately, since the process happens over time it's not always immediately obvious when it's happening.  Overvoltaging above our max spec does exactly this.  It raises the operating voltage beyond our rated max and can erode the GPU silicon over time.

In contrast, GPU Boost always keeps the voltage below our max spec, even as it is raising and lowering the voltage dynamically.  That way you get great performance and a guaranteed lifetime.
So our policy is pretty simple:
    1. We encourage users to go have fun with our GPUs.  They are completely guaranteed and will perform great within the predefined limits.
    2. We also recommend that our board partners don’t build in mechanisms that raise voltages beyond our max spec.  We set it as high as possible within long term reliability limits.

The reason we have a limit on max voltage is very simply to prevent damage to the GPU chips.  At NVIDIA we know that our customers want to push their GPUs to the limit.  We are all for it, and as a matter of fact NVIDIA has always prioritized support for hardware enthusiasts by providing tools to access hardware settings and by supporting our board partners in creating overclocked enthusiast products.  Leading up to the GeForce GTX 680 release for example, we worked closely with developers of 3rd party overclocking utilities to make sure they fully supported GeForce GTX 680 and GPU Boost on the day of launch.

It would appear that Nvidia has decided to more strictly enforce its voltage limits.

This will be quite a problematic issue with users who bought the 680 classy expecting this feature.
EVGA needs to expedite the proper changes in its current sales listings across the Web, to reflect this hardware change to the Classy's specs as soon as possible.

How frustrating that Nvidia has chosen to enforce these limits so late in the game -after- a products release.

I am not finding Nvidia's new "marketing" division (profit motive) to be in the best interest of its customers.
First the reordering of it 600 series product line, the intentional nerfering of performance and now the overly strict voltage compliance...

    I. Am. Speechless.

nVidia is effectively killing video card overclocking as we know it. I don't care if you have to charge a premium for  "K" model card like Intel does, but don't take it away from us completely ...

I feel terrible for you OP and anyone else who purchases this "new (and worthless over any other 680)" Classified unknowingly. I can't imagine what I would be feeling right now had I just dropped that kind of money to not get presumably the only thing I paid extra for. Just terrible.

So there is nothing wrong with the card that is good :)

But i am very shocked that i have changed there minds this far in! and how the hell do you do any overclocking now? most i could get without voltage tweaking was 40 on core 180 on memory.

And does that mean every single brand that uses software or hardware too allow voltage control is now doomed?

Ya not gonna lie, im  pretty bummed considering i sold my vanilla 680 2gbs to fund the purchase of 2 680 classys...im hoping i can get decent OCs out of them still without the need for EVbot.

Certainly would of been nice to know going into it tho, I would of just gone with the FTWs and saved a bit of money.

In my eyes there's really no point now to anything over the GTX 680+ 4GB that uses the reference PCB. From what I can tell from the countless hours I've spent reading threads about the 600 series cards and their overclocks, the only thing that really matters for max overclock is the silicone lottery. Phases, power delivery, additional cooling, etc. are all worthless gimmicks with 1.175V max in my opinion.

Tbh that's just sad. I don't blame EVGA whatsoever for this. I blame NVIDIA. It's sad that NVIDIA has chosen the road to greed, rather then quality products. If they don't change this soon, I think this will be the downfall of NVIDIA cards. When the 8k series of the AMD/ATI cards come out, and they have unlocked voltages, NVIDIA is going to suffer horrid losses if the 7xx series doesn't have more flexibility. We will see I guess, but it's still sad that I'm going to have to hack my BIOS just to get past 1.175v, knowing that my card has more then the ability to go higher.

    My Laptop (GE63VR-7RF):

    -16GB RAM.
    -GTX 1070.
    -128GB SSD.

I have just made some phone calls...

It appears that Nvidia is attempting to keep the performance differential intact from its unreleased "original" 680 that was withheld at the 600 series launch.
From what I gather with people who know about such things, this may portend a much earlier release of the withheld card than was projected just a few months ago.

This appears to be all about Nvidia milking the customer to the last red cent (since AMD has fallen flat on its face) and removing the ability to truly push ones cards into higher performance levels is being done to simply increase the profit margin.

It appears that Nvidia has forgotten the key to its overwhelming success. Providing the experienced user with the options to increase performance levels.

Once you start removing features to increase ones profit levels, you are heading downhill as a company.
It appears that Nvidia is doing just that. In my opinion this is a serious mistake that may increase profits "now" but lead to issues should such behavior be contiuned by Nvidia.

+1 for profit margins, -5 for end users
Greed is a terrible thing, if allowed to become company policy. Nvidia may be able to get away with this given the current state of videocard development between AMD and itself, but further down the road this could open the door to Nvidia becoming marginalized.

The massive profit margin increase with the 600 series over the 500 series, has appeared to make Nvidia management "profit drunk". As we have seen with other companies, such things can lead to driving into a ditch.....

I am a self confessed Nvidia fan but I was bitterly disappointed with the locked volts on the 680's (I have 2 of them). I will seriously consider changing brands. Overclocking is a big part of my computer enjoyment and with Nvidia taking the fun out of it, this could well be my last Green Team buy :(

Same as me.. bought two GTX 670 FTW to later upgrade for some 7xx... thinking about voltage unlocked ...

Seems like 700 series won't also have unlocked voltages... I'm going to be forced to go back to ATI as I had one card before and never gave me problems.. just changed to NVIDIA because I liked their products most... but this is changing now..

I first noticed that the HC version didn't list the EVBot connector back in August but just dismissed it as an oversight -- http://forums.evga.com/fb.ashx?m=1722804

I must admit that I'm more than a little disappointed. I was going to jump at the HC model when released (this week?) and now I need to seriously reassess things.
