Finalized Details for The EVGA L4D 4v4 Tournament:

The following information are the finalized rules and details needed to participate in our L4D tournament. Please read ALL of the following information, and if you have any problems or need assistance, feel free to visit the EVGA ventrilo to get a hold of InsideRxBandit. We'll do our best to help you where we can.

EVGA Ventrilo Information:

We had a problem with our old ventrilo located in Dallas, because of this, we had to make a slight change to the IP and Port of the ventrilo youll be using next weekend.

voice06.lowpings.net:4407

We are also asking that ONLY the Team Leaders log into the ventrilo on the day of the event, to ensure the tournament runs smoothly with as little confusion as possible. If you need a ventrilo or teamspeak to communicate with, we will have 2 separate servers for you to use

Tournament Start Date:

To clarify, this tournament is being held on Saturday April 11th 2009 - 3PM PST. If you do not know what time PST is compared to your own time zone, please visit: www.timezoneconverter.com

Please be advised that the first HOUR of this event will most likely be prep time to give us an opportunity to mark attendance and get the server information to all the Team Leaders. Please be patient on the day of the event, the less fuss we have, the quicker we will start.

The Tournament:

The following are all the steps a Team Leader will be using to properly participate in next weeks event. If you dont understand one of the steps, or have any problems with the way its being run, please feel free to contact me via email or log into the above ventrilo to try and reach me anytime this week. email: v_jono@evga.com

Step 1 - Team Leaders log into the ventrilo at the appropriate time next Saturday. Once you are logged in, you will automatically be placed in a waiting channel where an EVGA Mod will greet you and mark your teams attendance as well as make any adjustments to your teams roster if you have to switch a player.

Step 2 - After your attendance is taken, the EVGA Mod will place you in another private channel to wait for your opponents Team Leader. No teams will be starting early, you must wait patiently until all teams are ready before we start any matches.

Step 3 - Once all the Team Leaders are in place, an EVGA Mod will visit your channel to give you the proper server IP and passsword for the server you will be using for your match. If you have your own server, you still must wait until an EVGA Mod gives you the ok to start your match (more details on using your own server will be provided later on in this email) Make sure to have all your Team Members loaded into your Steam Friends list so you can invite them to the appropriate server (and give them the password)

Step 4 - Now that both teams are ready, youll be entering your designated server and using the Ready Up mod to begin your match. Each team will play ONE round of the selected stage as both survivors and infected. Please do not forget to record your demos and take screenshots of the finished scores in case there is a dispute (more details on demos and screenshots later in this email)

Step 5 - The winner of the match/stage must leave the private channel they were placed in, and move to a new channel called Winners where you will wait for the remaining teams to finish their matches. Once all matches are complete, we will be repeating Steps 3-5 with new private channels and new stages to be played until only 2 teams remain for the championship round. This is a knockout elimination style event, once your team loses a match/stage, you will be eliminated from the bracket and moved to a finished channel in the ventrilo.

Update on Ready Up Mod:

One major change we have made the event is the Ready Up Mod. Teams will no longer be using our original idea of an in game ready up but instead using an available mod that will be loaded into every server we are using.

The mod itself is very simple to use, it will freeze each player in place once the map loads and ask each player to mark themselves ready before restarting the map to begin the round. Once the match has restarted and you are unfrozen, you may begin the match immediately. This ensures that every player starts at the same time and there are no problems with people abusing another teams slow loading time.

Using Your Own Server:

It has come to our attention that a lot of Teams have their own servers located in North America that they wish to use for the event. Please read the following information to make sure you server qualifies for use in next weeks event.

The match must be played on a dedicated server connected to at least a T1 connection. The Server must be located in North America to be eligible for the tournament. Cable, DSL, Satellite or other broadband connections are not acceptable. LAN Center players are not allowed to use servers located at their LAN Center. Additionally, any server that allows one of the teams to ping less than 5 to is not usable for match play.

Clan/Team servers must use the ready up mod/plugin. We don't want any servers that run custom settings like making normal zombies do more damage or faster respawns. The tank/witch settings we will be using are these (twl/cal settings):

  • //TANK + WITCH SPAWNS ETC
  • sm_cvar versus_tank_chance_intro 1
  • sm_cvar versus_tank_chance_finale 1
  • sm_cvar versus_tank_chance 1
  • sm_cvar versus_witch_chance_intro 0
  • sm_cvar versus_witch_chance_finale 0
  • sm_cvar versus_witch_chance 1
  • sm_cvar versus_boss_flow_max_intro 0.9 //on intro have more tank location variety
  • sm_cvar versus_boss_flow_max 0.85 //on BH4/NM4 tank is useless at the end

Other settings:

  • mp_disable_autokick 1
  • sv_consistency 1
  • sv_pure 2
  • sv_voiceenable 1

**If you have any problems with setting up your server, or are unclear on the Ready up Mod or settings we are using.. Please feel free to contact our Moderator in charge of all server setup: Simbot@cox.net. He will help you as best he can to make sure you are ready for Saturday**

Maps and Tournament Bracket:

The next part is very important.. There will be NO prearranged tournament bracket to view before the event. The reasoning is simple.. We had over 100 teams register for this event and in our experience we only ever get 30-50% of the registered teams who actually show up. Rather than have a 128 man bracket where we have to give free wins to half of the teams, weve decided to create the bracket in realtime according to how many teams show up. That way every team will be playing the same amount of matches in the first round and we can form a proper bracket to reflect how many teams showed up. After the first round, we will be placing the bracket in our forums and providing everyone with the link so they can view who they will be playing though out the day.

To clairify, the starting matches of this event will be played on one stage only. We do not have the time for each team to play a full VS mode match on each stage of the bracket. The only teams to play the a full VS mode map will be either the semifinalist of finalist, depending on how fast things progress on Saturday.

Rules:

These are the conditions and rules we decided upon for all players wishing to participate in the tournament. Please read them carefully so there will be no mix-ups on the day of the event.

  • No fast tracking the maps. This means bypassing the regular course of the stage through wall clipping, glitching, or using illegal shortcuts that can be exploited.
  • No exploiting the catch up feature as infected. Overusing the catch up may result in a loss if it is done deliberately.
  • No inappropriate sprays or sprays that are designed to give you any advantage in a match.
  • Moderators have the final say when it comes to any disputes that occur for any reason whatsoever.
  • Play fair. Just because a rule does not show on this list, is not an invitation to exploit it. You all know what fair play is, so please do your best to make sure this is a fun event for everyone involved.

Demos:

As Team Leader you are responsible for collecting any demos needed for settling disputes. Make sure all your Team Members know how to record demos in case they are needed for any reason. To record demos, you must have the developed console enabled in your option menu. At the start of the match, open the console and type: [record file name] to successfully record a demo. Do no use / in any file name when recording a demo, or it will not record.

All demos will be saved to the following directory: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead. Demo files will be recognizable by a .dem file extension at the end of the file name

Screenshots

In order to properly record scores for evidence, its important that you do not forget to record a screenshot of the final scores (final score meaning after playing both as infected and the survivors).

Make sure you have your print screen or F5 button on your keyboard enabled so you can copy screenshots. It is okay to copy overtop of an old screenshot from a previous match if the decision for that match has already be decided. All disputes must be registered right after match ends, so old screenshots will not be needed.

Additional Notes:

All Team Leaders must have a full team to play. We will not be excepting solo entries for this event. If one of your Team Members can not show up for the event, its important that you find a replacement and register the change to your roster with one of our EVGA Moderators before the tournament starts, while we are marking attendance.

There is no guarentee this competition/event can be finished in one day, we do however expect we will at least make it to the championship round with the top 2 teams on Saturday. If it is too late for the final teams to complete their championship match, it will be up to both the Team Leaders to decide a date when both teams can finish the tournament. If however both teams want to keep going despite how late it is, we do promise to continue as late as you please on Saturday.
