I  think there was some thread saying you can't or it is hard to set up
dual boot OS with Vista but want to make sure.
I have XP Pro and happy but seems allot of test and freebies
come to you when you have Vista and I like to see what the big
deal is about DX10.
I hate to migrate but it seems it is time to try.
The thing is I have not had any problems with XP at all so this is why
I want dual boot system but want to make sure I can run dual as some
special progams do not work with Vista at all, I need to keep in touch
with Hong Kong daily that can only be done through XP.
I know how to set dual boot systems but with all the junk that MS has
done IE can't even add a hard drive without calling in I really hate that
very much.
Thanks for any help.

when i did it i ran vista and xp in a raid0 format. i had 1 set of drive with xp and the other set of drives with vista on it. and the only way i could switch between them. was i had to go into the bios and switch the drive that was 1st to boot from. it is the only way to do it now i guess. it is full proff that way to. i was also able to play some game from my xp raid set up when in vista. but i did not try it the other way.

I agree, I guess Vista is anal only because MS is..
You know I use to have a Bios boot it was a secret hard drive
I installed for private use disabling the other drive via the bios as
the OS could only see what the Bios say's it has.
Bios has been my friend for years once I learned how to use it and
make it my friend, It is like the command prompt I use to use it in the old
days when I had Win 3.11 the ego yes!! as to let all know I was the master
of my computer,,  The C prompt said What is the Bidding Master and always
made me remember I was the master not it hehehe.
Thanks for the input but it seems using raid is a over kill as I like using O
but I guess I can use raid 5 But God what a waist for raid.
Add one more hard drive .  Hey do you have to still check with the big guy when
you add another hard drive in Vista?
Thanks alto for your input
Jerry

well i run raid0 since it installs any app very fats. and i don't need to buy a raptor which would cost more then the 2 sata2 i have now. beside the 2 sata2 i have are 250gig apc. so i have a 500gig drive to do what i want. and i think the biggest rator drive is like what less then 150gig.. and cost more or the same has a terra gig drive

well that is the way i ran my dual boot till vista and I had a learning experience . lol
never switch a raid from basic to dynamic! never ever, and i know i will not do that ever again!

i lost everything i had on my vista raid. and now i can not get vista to get past the 75% install mark. i spent all most 24hr on Friday into the wee hours of Saturday with no luck..

but that is another tail or thread or chapter in my ever growing book, lol.

but as for installing another drive with vista and what it does or wants, i do not remember that 1. sorry Jerry, hehe tis my name to.

I use Acronis OS Selector  - which went it works - works well but you really have to follow the manual to the letter.

You have become better <24> at font usage.

For a while I dual booted Vista with XP.  Vista has to install on the primary drive, along with XP.  The Vista installation disk will create a second partition on the disk.  Once installed, a dual boot menu comes up and allows you to decide which operating system you wish to use.  Make sure that you have a lot of extra room on your C drive.  Vista is a hog.

Like you, I was happy with XP and I was uneasy with the idea of changing.  Plus some of my software only worked on XP.  After using Vista for a few months, I found that I hardly ever used XP.  So, I semi-retired it.

I loaded all XP on a 150 gig drive that I had laying around.  Once done I disconnected that drive and installed Vista.  As one of the previous posters mentioned, If I want to use XP I have to make the XP drive the first boot disk in the bios.

Both systems have NFTS file systems.  You can exchange data between XP & Vista.

Good Luck.

this is so easy!
just have vista or xp to begin with on your drive, turn oiff your pc add a new harddrive boot up your pc, format you new harddrive when into windows, insert xp disc restart your pc, enter bios at startup and change your ne harddrive as the boot drive save and exit bios, system will boot from the xp disc and installs on the new drive, after its all done take out disc and your done! now when you turn on your pc just press whichever F key it is to bring up the boot form menu already on your pc and pick which drive to boot into:) easy and you can have 10 OS on 10 diffewrent drives if you want just boot into whichever:)
