From every thread I've seen here asking questions about it (including my own questions), they just get glossed over or ignored by staff. Or they respond like they are typing from an Indian Help Desk upsell/marketing sheet. So, I'm not sold that AKIMBO is patent pending anything--it looks like an 8800GTS dual slot cooler with a backplate. Yay. Just another way to squeeze $40 out of customers. Seriously, why anyone would buy an AKIMBO over a GTS is beyond me. The only benefit to it I can see is if someone has an 8800GT with no upgrade option (step up is over or whatever) and they want better cooling for it. But even then, there are plenty of other solutions that could be better who knows, since, again, EVGA hasn't yet actually answered any real questions about it. We're just supposed to see the words "patent pending" and say "Wow! Patent pending! Here! Have $40!" I don't think so. Their stock response to any question so far has been "It's better! It's patent pending so it must be good, right?" Really? HOW? (sound of crickets) And the word akimbo has been used before, recently, actually, attached to what was a collosal failure. See http://www.businessweek.com/technology/content/jun2005/tc20050615_0219_tc119.htm Maybe that's why the actual cards are a paper launch. Maybe EVGA knows that their only market for this, MAYBE, is for those with no upgrade or step-up to the GTS and are just looking for a fan. People into big red flame stickers might buy, too. But without real numbers, why not just get a Duo Orb which is tried and true and probably compatable with your next card too (and can be found for less money online)? EVGA, I'm calling you out. Back it up. WHY is the akimbo better? Or, if you can't or won't do that, how about at least telling us the patent application number so that we can find out for ourselves what is so unique about this product that we should all buy it instead of anything else available?
