UPDATE: eVGA has duplicated the problem and working on it.

Problem:
quote:

ORIGINAL: iride4u
Let me see if I can help some users understand what is happening.
1; This problem is only known to attack computers with Nvidia chipsets or Nvidia NF200 chips.
2; This problem starts with the install of 191.07 WHQL drivers.
3; Only some computers are effected so there may be some other common thread that has not been figured out yet.
4; In most cases the computer runs fine for a day or two after the drivers are installed.
5; The problems start out very minor and grow over the next 48 hours.
6; Rolling back the drivers may help. Reinstalling Windows may help. Clearing CMOS may help.
7; Changing parts other than the motherboard does not help.
8; Replacing the motherboard with a non NF200 or non Nvidia motherboard cures the problem.

Bad CPU, video cards, and memory are not part of the problem but can cause similar problem to some of the simptons.

What happens is first a slight studer in a game or benchmark. The next step is your stable video card settings are no longer stable. But you can move the card to another system and it with at your normal stable settings. Your system will further degrade from here until it is almost unuseable.

Cause: Currently unkown. Believed to be 191.07 affecting nvidia/nf200chipset.

Accounts:

I even stripped my drivers down.... I hope to search this through tonight .... Getting very frustrated...  Are you in a game... Have it quickly stop ... go to a black screen with some Nvidia error saying it stopped or could not connect or?  That is what is happening to me... ALL games... even Multi Player COD 4. I was running the 222... Just a few moments ago I switched to 225.. and set the factory PCI setting of 128 to 4096.... Not sure that will help, but I did it anyway!

We are seeing problems that look like failing video cards. We have not been able to cure the problem with uninstalling the 191.07 drivers and installing older drivers. The problem is not following the video cards from one machine to another but is staying with the cards the have a NF200 chip.

I got my version of 191.07 WHQL off of Nvidas web site. I don't know if that was a bad Version and others were good but I would avoid 191.07 and use an earlier version.
Everything may start out looking good with out any problems. I was slowly working my benchs up to the mid 43s in Vantage then the next morning all I could do was 27s.and it got worse from there. The 295+s have been checked on a different computer and they are working normaly. My 275 has also failed on the E759 but not on the E758.

The problem only is known to cause problems with NF200 chip and 191.07 drivers.
It does not matter what Nvidia video card you have or what OS you are using.
This problem starts out a a down clocking of your stable video card setting and gets progressivly worse until constant crashes at stock speeds. Cooling does not matter 2 of my cards have never been over 50c and the other is stock cooled.
The problem does not travel with the video cards.

And some accounts of those with no problem.

I'm running a 750iFTW (+ NF200 chip), GTX295 CO-OP with the 191.07's and these are the best drivers I've ever had since purchasing the card 3 months ago.

E759 (S21T) + 3x GTX280 + 191.07 WHQL

No problems here...

I am stumped... after updating to the 191.07 drivers from the 190.38 drivers, i started crashing in every game and OCCT but passing furmark and 3dmark vantage.

Went down to 190.38 and same thing happened...
Then back down to 186.18 and same thing except some games dont crash but others are do. Its not the OC as i tried stock settings. Its not the card OC either since ive tried everything from 648-774core and different shader and memory clocks too.

before updating to 191.07 i didnt have this problem. Iride had a similar problem where he found it was his PCIE lanes. However our cases might be different as he would crash in the 3dmark vantage tests and I didnt.

In OCCT, while doing the GPU tests, it would crash always between 90sec-110secs of the test running. however it would pass no problem on 3 hours of furmark. Cant be temps either since these cards are WCed maintaining a max load temp of 46c. I also ran GPU mem test on OCCT with no problems and errors.

im quite about ready to switch to the red devils....
anyone have any ideas on what could the problem be.
Btw, crashing in CoD4, crysis. But fine in Assassins creed, RA3, CoD5.
My rig is in my sig.

Yeah afterburner.. exactly the same thing.....
Im about to rip my hair out.. been struggling all day with this....

edit: i went as far as enabling admin mode in win7. and manually arranging nvidia drivers within system32 and 64. to the point where windows 7 will only detect the cards as VGA drivers maintaining 100% that its a fresh driver install after every install. Honestly.... this is the worst driver problem i have had in a while.. a long long while....

Since you asked if anyone had ideas on what the problem could be, and I notice you both have the same 759 Classified, have you all tried flashing to the new S225 BIOS?

My 759 is on its way back to EVGA do to similar problems. It crashes on OCCT GPU tests and gets a warning in German when I try to run other tests. This does not happen on the 758 only the 759. It could be something to do with the NF200.

It seems to sound like it is narrowed down to your boards, although from what I've read about these 191.07 drivers they seem to be rather unacceptable.
Thanks for the warning, I'll definitely be sticking with 190.62 once I'm back up and running.

The 190.56 are the fastest that I have used. They do not include Physx that also has to be installed.

I may have just had a very bad string of bad luck. But with 2 Classifieds it will be easier to test and find the problems.

Hmmm, same here except is only occuring with fallout 3 when I install drivers past 181.xx,is usually the nv4dsp.dll that causes the problem [bsod] sometimes crashed to desktop without no warning no nothing,so I put fallout 3 on a hdd all by itself, seems fine for now..:)

Well just like to add that you guys aren't the only people w/ the issue. I'm on W7 RTM version and I get bsods pointing to nvlddmkm.sys saying the driver has attempted to reset the driver of some sort. This godforsaken message occurs only when I come out after watching videos or viewing photos, you know, when Windows tries to restore the aero theme from whatever it was using prior to that. Also using 191.07 at the moment. I asked around here and there and as it turns out, other people using similar setups (W7 + 295 + 191.xx) are experiencing very similar symptoms. I'm more inclined to believe the cause is more of driver-related rather than hardware defects based on gathered facts and past history w/ Vista.

Can a MOD or Tech chime in on this? Maybe we are missing something...

So far it seems we all had been fine before trying the new WHQL 191.07's and it seems we are all running 759's....

Please... "you are our only hope"

I wish it was a bios thing or a driver problem. But my problems started with a call to tech support around Labor Day. 1 card would not down clock and the other ran at 60% of the other three.
Both cards were RMAed, knowing what I know now they were not the problem. I got back 1 good and 1 dead. RMAed the dead one and got back a card that would not run Vantage at stock clocks. RMAed again and got a good one. EVGA tested the first 2 and said that both passed everything that was sent at them. When I installed my 2 spare cards #2 PCI-e slot had failed.
RMAed the 759. New 759 had AS5 smeared all over the chipset and the surounding area, it also failed. Current 759 will not run OCCT, IBT, Prime95 it fails as soon as the test starts. It also will not run Vantage at any setting. Although I am RMAing it I will not be using the replacement in my main machine but will be testing it as a test bench.

If you ever installed 191.07 drivers in your system you should reinstall OS and do not install these drivers.

I had 191.06 drivers and all was good, then I did a big mistage by installing 191.07 drivers "cancer edition".

seems like problems pointing to 191.07 + windows 7 is the one thing in common we all have.

as afterburner has said. can we get a tech or mod to chime in on this problem...!!!???

i had driver failures as soon as i started playing batman aa. that is when i noticed my system failing, i was getting 60fps with vsynce on and then bam 14fps black screen and then the little triangle would pop up telling me the driver stopped. i dont know what driver i had there, i might have attempted 191.03 at that time. it might just be the 191 drivers that put this cancer into our loved systems. this is a serious problem, because it puts our thousands of dollars in gaming goodness out of business.

at least your on air.... for those on water.. ugh..... lots of work was put into bleeding and testing.... it better be a registry/bios/driver problem or ill be very very very very very very upset.

So far weve narrowed it down to 191.07 driver + NF200 chip = instability and death in gaming. Or so it seems to be anyway... i am honestly very very sore now wasting almost 18 hours of life trying to figure this crap out.... very upset nvidia/eVGA with the lack of support we are getting on this.

My problems started way before the 191.07s and my 758 is working fine. I test drivers on it first. But looking at my current problems they did start with the 191.07s I was getting P43500s before I tried the 191.07s. Before the complete crash the benchs went down to P 27000s and below.

Thats really worrying im starting to think that the 191.07 really did something now.
A google search will net quite a few problems.. seems like everyone of these problems are have either manifested with the common denominators of windows 7 or NF200 chip.

Seems like your neither running a nf200 chip or windows 7.
Thanks for the input.

If they dont find a fix for this by the time modernwarfare comes out ... ill be buying me a pair of new 5870s.... ive had about enough of these nvidia drivers to be honest...

I just called tech support to let them know. It seems to be also a problem with the 790i boards.

Yes indeed, I wrote it, I have 790i. Do you know whether driver damages hardware? I do not want that, so I would reinstall all operating systems.

thanks for chiming in tech support on this.
Im seriously out of ideas. And i honestly do not want to try a full reinstall now.
Obviously... since i will have to do another full reinstall when i get my original copy of windows 7.

I have the same issue with my machine with a 780i board but not my machine with a 750i FTW board. The difference is my problems witht he 780i board started when I upgraded from 4GB to 8GB (though I also updated my drivers at the same time) while my 750i machine is strill rocking drivers from last year some time (it's just my back up gaming machine so it doesn't get used often).

Thought I had the problem licked by downclocking my ram the other day but it started all over again this evening. Mid COD 4 online my screen would go black with the drivver stopped error message in the center. I have tried installing other drivers but the problem still remains, I was starting to suspect my cards where the issue until I saw another thread on this the other day.
