I just purchased and installed an AMD Phenom II x4 955 into my computer. I had flashed the bios beforehand with the update that EVGA put out to allow Phenom II's to work with this motherboard, but I am having an issue. Even with the update and AMD Cool & Quiet off, the processor is only reading at 800MHZ, even though it should be reading at 3.2 GHZ. When I noticed this, I tried flashing the bios with the update once again in case it didn't work last time, but still the same result.

How do I fix this and make the processor run at its stock speed?

Maybe you should try putting in a spare processor, if you have one, to see how that one reads. If that one reads normal, and the bios flash went ok, than maybe your CPU is bad.

This motherboard was not made to support 125Watt CPUs. Some people have had no issues using higher wattage CPUs, but 95Watt is the design spec. Also, I have a newer PhenomII X2 550 and the current BIOS does not support AM3 processors. AM2+ yes, AM3 to a certain point. My computer will boot and load windows with an AM3 PII but will freeze within minutes. When I put in my Athlon X2, all is fine. When I contacted EVGA, here is the response:

"Question (08/30/2009 9:00:43 AM): I bought an AMD Phenom II 550BE and installed onto the mobo, the BIOS gives 'unknown processor' and I do have the latest BIOS installed. The computer starts fine then freezes. I know that it is because the current BIOS does not have official support for the newer AMD processors. When will an updated BIOS be available for 730a mobo so that I can enjoy my new AMD processor?
Answered By Garrett H (08/30/2009 1:42:53 PM): At this time, there is not a bios version that will support this CPU. The supported CPUs are listed at http://www.evga.com/support/motherboard/ We do not have a timeline for any possible future support for any different CPUs. Regards, EVGA "

At the moment, only AM2+ Phenom II processors are supported.

I tried this 730a MB with a 710 and overall system performance was OK, but I knew that something was wrong based on how it responded to certain programs.  Then I figured the chip was bad, so I purchased a 805 at frys for $80. on sale.  This chip never crashed the system either, but after about 20 boot-ups, I got boot errors on two Windows 7 installations.  The recovery disc didn't help either.  Good thing this rig was in the testing stages and I didn't have a load of personal info on it.  EVGA would serve us well if they added support for Phenon AM2/AM3 chips too. But now the only phenon II chips supported are the 920 & 940.
