Metalkon -> "Might" This Laptop be able to play StarCraft2/Diablo3? (4/11/2009 5:04:26 AM)

Dell Studio XPS 16

CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600 (3MB cache/2.40GHz/1066Mhz FSB)
Video Card: ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 3670 - 512MB
RAM: 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz (2 Dimms)

Might I be able to run StarCraft2/Diablo3 with the thing? I know that both games are not out right now but you guys may be able to come up with a better guess than what I can.

The Laptop is to play while at work, 12 hours every night doing security work.

I'm only going with Dell for their payment plans since I can't buy a laptop in one payment right now, I am pretty sure that I may get some people here telling me to buy a laptop somewhere else but if I cannot get a weekly/monthly payment plan with it in Canada then it won't help me at all unfortunately.

It should be "ok" based at the default resolution.

Until Blizard announces the system requirements for either game, it's hard to know just how demanding they'll be. Bizzard has a tendancy to optimize their games well, to run on just about any system. Poking around I found this as an unofficial minimum specifications for Starcraft 2.

StarCraftWire.net Minimum Specifications:
  • CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce FX 5500
StarCraftWire.net Alternative Minimum Specifications:
  • CPU: Athlon XP 2500+
  • Memory: 1 GB RAM
  • Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 9700

How much is that Laptop?  If it is about $1200, you should look into some of the Gateway FX laptops.  Like the P-7811FX, or the P-7801FX, or the P-7805u.  All are better performing latops for about $1200.

This Gateway laptop looks good, but I have no idea if I can get it and with monthly payments somewhere since its only sold at Best Buy in the US according to Gateway.

@mdedrick
I don't think that ncix offers a payment plan, using a Credit Card is not an option either.

You can find used ones on ebay.  Some have been modded to include BlueRay, or a quad core cpu, or RAID.

Finding people who will let me pay over the course of a couple months or more would be a real pain to find on ebay. [&:]

The gateways are great LAN party machines! However, it is not worth going in debt for.

I found a Canadian site called http://www.computertrends.com/ that offers monthly payments but they hardly have a selection for gaming laptops. :(

Just checked through the BestBuy site and they do monthly payments on many of their more expensive products at the store.

Though I gotta buy from their Canadian Lineup, I would like that Asus one. :(
