I was in the same situation.  I tried every possible fix and none of them worked.  What I ended up doing was tearing my rig apart and piecing it back together, which actually worked for some reason.

LOL.. I installed a couple of GTX560 Duke Nukem cards a couple of days ago (along with the new driver) and had no sound.. I was like, "nooooooo!!!"  ..then I realized I had plugged my speakers & amp into the jack on the mobo instead of the jack on the sound card. Doh!

I just got my RMA back today after a week of waiting to realize my GTX 460 SE is faulty or not working properly. I put the card in my system and installed latest nvidia driver. After it restarts, my computer will not boot into windows no matter what. It always freezes my computer before it boots windows. I have tried reinstall windows, but the problem still appear. I'm little frustrated right now because I lost all of my files due this graphics card.

          Spec:
          Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H
          Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor (4 CPUs), 3.4GHz C2
          Ram: 4GB OCZ 1066Mhz
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SE 1GB Superclocked
PSU: Ultra LSP 750 Watt Pro
          I really appreciate any help.
          Thanks.

Edit: I have tried the sticky method many times but no luck. The one to use driver sweeper.
I also tried to install 266.58 driver but no luck as well.
I have been doing this for the whole day. Please somebody solve my problem.
          What should I do now?

I did exactly what you said, but wile gaming, I still get the message from my monitor "NO SIGNAL" for few seconds then game crashes and in the bottom shows me message "NVIDIA Driver stop responding and been recovered" or something similar, why??
                  how can I fix it?
I use to go without problems with drivers 260 (cards EVGA GTX470 superclocked edition in SLI) I recently updated to 280 since I bought a new game on STEAM "Shadow Harvest: Phantom Ops" and now this game starts and play fine, but I getting this stupid problem and it's not just in that game, but in all different games, may be drivers 280?

i tried it a few times and it didnt work for me. i get the BSOD when i activate SLI and restart on drivers 270.61 and above. i talked with nvidia they told me i cant SLI 2 cards with different clock speed. ya they were no help with anything. right now im stable with  266.58 running sli+ onboard. i really wish i could fix the problem b.c i know for sure that there is going to be updates for the games that come out this winter.

Actually, the sure fire easy way is via Device manage and setting "view devices by connection".
In my case I wanted the Audio from one Nvidia card to be turned on. The mother board and slave video cards? Not so much. (why would I need 3 multi-channel audio controllers installed and enabled?)

Thanks! After disabling the extra adapters I rebooted and the BLACK screen of death was no longer.

I suppose it makes sense, when you boot the system has to query all the audio devices and see which one may have speakers attached. If only 1 device is enabled AND it has speakers than BINGO, Winderz does not have to think as much and it boots faster.

(no if I could only get cold air to this stupd HD SC card.... grrrrr)

Do NOT install that junk... it is KNOWN to mess up your system sometimes, and is almost impossible to remove.
Total problems, keep away (its also like 3-4yrs old and was never ment to work on Win7)

ok , last important question , do u have any increase in voltage or anything in MSI afterBurner ? or just normal ? cos all ppl sugesting to make it 1050 - 1100 ....etc , that might make things better

I was pointed here by support due to problems with random artifacting.. cleared by shutting down the computer etc, my blackouts only tend to occur when the card is artifacting. The card can go days.. maybe a week without a problem. I have disabled the audio driver.. but I wonder if this is a solution to my problem or if support is sending me in the wrong direction, is this only a solution for black screens/driver recovers?

I have read a lot of complaints here and other forums and from what I am reading, it seems that these so called HD Audio drivers are causing the main problem, so why not either egva/nvidia just put out video drivers without the HD Audio drivers and leave us vid card owners alone. It would seem like it would solve everyone's problem here with very little effort. If people have bought your sound cards good for them, but give them their own drivers and vid card owners their own drivers. For godsakes people, if you just knew how frustrating and the hours spent trying to solve this problem, just to get a $200+ vid card to work, you would understand the frustration here. I have a Gforce EVGA 460GTX card and I love the way it's working, until these dang drivers came out. So please fix these drivers by taking out the HD Audio drivers and people can get on with their lives. I have my own sound card drivers and I am very satisfied with them and I don't need these. On the driver installation it does give you the option to not install the audio, but guess what it does it anyway. PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM)(*^*&^*&%%^(.

Hello, I have read and tried some of suggestion but still doesn't work. I have a MSI Nvidia GeForce 450 Gts 512 mb Video card and when I play games like crysis 2, assassin's creed, skyrim at medium detail(resolution 1024x768) all works fine, but when I go for high detail and 1280x1024 resolution I get the black screen and my computer enter in standby... My driver is a beta one from nvidia 290.36. What should I do pls help me...

Isn't HDMI and DVI the same thing? I mean HDMI includes sound as well, but as far as graphics go, the only difference is the type of connector used, as far as I'm aware...

You couldn't be more wrong Nereus!
DVI, by definition does NOT include audio.
HDMI "weaves" the audio data into the video stream.
The Wiki article is good reading for understanding the differences.

The reason this is often mistaken is that a lot of manufacturers (like EVGA) make the ports interoperable. Meaning that you can connect a DVI to HDMI Adapter to the DVI port of your graphic card and connect it with an HDMI cable to the HDMI input of your monitor/TV.

Worst of this is that it is nowhere documented. If you want to have Full HD 3D with deep color, I would not bet on an adapter!!

Heh - I know : "Isn't HDMI and DVI the same thing? I mean HDMI includes sound as well, but as far as graphics go, the only difference is the type of connector used, as far as I'm aware..."

So what you're really saying is I'm correct?

                                                      NO!
Can DVI play back 3D with deep color? No, it cannot.
Can DVI include remote commands? No, it cannot.
Ergo it isn't the same thing!

If you limit the video to RGB, then DVI can transmit the same video quality as HDMI.
Just because you're paranoid, don't mean that people aren't out to get you!

                                                        OK!
                                                        lol chill bro...

I don't use (or have) 3D, and sound is dealt with separately from video on my system, so it's a wash there. I read that the signal was effectively the same between DVI and HDMI (interestingly enough, that was on Wikipedia too, lol). If you are saying I will get a better picture with an HDMI cable, then I'll swap over...  just leave out the exclamation marks and caps pls lol.

I run 2 x 580 vanillas in SLI and an LG Flatron E2350V 23" LED monitor at 1920 x 1080.. do you think it's going to make a difference?

                                                        Thanks in advance.

oh.. my LCD panel does have a headphone jack.. if I use that for the headphones, I wonder if the sound card and speakers will also operate whenever I chose to spark it up.. ie: can both work at the same time? Maybe I should just try it myself lol...

I am German and we capitalize a lot!

What may come through is the frustration from having to explain to users why their system isn't running the way they expect; just because they followed what they read.

But no worries: I am chilled as can be.
