EVGA Precision 1.9.3 Released Monday, May 03, 2010 6:55 PM (permalink)
Long changelist

EVGA Precision v1.9.3 (05-03-2010)

  • Default tray icon text color has been changed from white to red to improve icon text readability in Windows 7
  • Default screenshots folder location has been changed from application folder to common pictures folder
  • Full EVGA Precision uninstallation no longer unregisters EVGA OC Scanner
  • Fixed units and On-Screen Display group name for videomemory usage graph
  • 'Stop the task if it runs longer than 3 days' option is no longer set in thetask settings when using alternate startup mode via the task scheduler under Windows Vista / Windows 7
  • Screen capture and On-Screen Display hotkey events are now being processed via direct connection to the On-Screen Display server instead of command line. Due to this change Screen capture and On-Screen Display visibility control hotkeys are being processed faster now
  • Now 'i' button displays info about active clients connected to EVGA On-Screen Display server, allowing you to see why the server is running on your system
  • Now 'i' button displays info about active clients connected to EVGA On-Screen Display server, allowing you to see why the server is running on your system
  • Now automatic 2D/3D profiles management feature is unlocked by default
  • EVGA On-Screen Display server has been upgraded to version 3.7.0. New server gives you a lot of improvements including:
    • DirectX 11 On-Screen Display and screen capture support
    • DirectX screen capture engine is no longer using DirectX runtimes to capture and compress screenshots. Screen capture and compression to PNG/JPG formats in DirectX applications is now handled by own more effective LIBPNG/JPEGLIB based library
    • PNG and JPG screen capture support for desktop and OpenGL applications
    • Adjustable JPG screen capture quality for experienced users
    • Screen capture support for DirectX10 and DirectX11 applications using multisampled antialiasing or non-standard frame buffer formats (e.g. sRGB)
    • Optional On-Screen Display 3D rendering mode. New mode uses 3D accelerated DirectX functions to emulate previously used 2D framebuffer access functions and render 2D text. New rendering mode provides On-Screen Display support in DirectX10 and DirectX11 applications using multisampled antialiasing and can also drastically reduce OSD related performance hit on the systems with badly optimized 2D acceleration in display drivers
    • Simplified On-Screen Display coordinate space settings. Rarely used desktop and window coordinate space modes have been merged into single framebuffer coordinate space mode
    • Now the server automatically selects framebuffer coordinate space instead of viewport coordinate space when viewport is not accessible (e.g. if pure Direct3D8 device is in use)
    • Improved application notification scheme during runtime profiles adjustment. Now runtime changes in OSD application profiles (e.g. OSD zoom ratio change on the fly) are reflected in affected application almost immedaitely instead of approximately 1 second delay in the previos versions
    • Reduced runtime skin engine memory footprint due to dynamic skin storage unloading
    • Improved race condition protection system for multithreaded 3D engines (e.g. Dragon Age: Origins and ArmA II)
    • Improved race condition protection system for the systems running multiple OSD applications simultaneously (e.g. OSD server, FRAPS and STEAM In-Game Chat)
    • Improved floating injection address hooking technology. Due to more advanced built-in code analyzer hooks can be injected deeper into 3D application code if stealth mode is enabled. These changes improve stealth mode compatibility with third party tools using similar stealth injection technologies (e.g. FRAPS v2.9.8 and newer)
    • Now stealth mode cannot be toggled during 3D application runtime to reduce the risk of crashing 3D application
    • Removed single screen capture per second limitation
    • Updated profiles list

Lost the 480 skin that was loaded with 1.9.2.  My 285 skin is still there though.

To get your 480/40 skin with the new version, install version 1.9.2 off the Driver DVD, then install 1.9.3 over the top of it without uninstalling first.

But ... but ... the faq says to uninstall the old version first then reboot and install the new one.

Thanks I'll give that a try tomorrow.  Too late for me to do anything serious.  Appreciate the prompt reply.

Install 1.9.2, go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\EVGA Precision\Skins", copy the skin files to a safe location, uninstall 1.9.2, install 1.9.3, don't start Precision yet, copy back the skin files to the same path, start Precision, select the skin from settings, enjoy ;)

Are D3D11 games suppose to be reporting as D3D10 on the G15 LCD? and I can't seem to get some other dx11 games like Metro2033,Dirt 2 to show FPS on my G15 LCD, any fix for that? Other then that good update!

Nope, it si supposed to report D3D11. Looks like I just forgot to add D3D11 tag to G15 display module, will fix it in the next version, thanks for reporting.

I just installed the new one.  Still disappointed that it won't monitor anything but the temperature for GPU2 on my GTX 275 CO-OP.

It monitors GPU1 fine, of course.

Strange, mine still puts screenshots in the applications folder?

Edit=I found the problem.Even if you delete old precision the screenshots folder and the old precision folder still are thier. If you install new precision,it still saves screenshots in the same folder. You have to delete the old precision folder in  C:\Program Files (x86) for screenshots to go in users pictures folder.

I'd switch to this from Afterburner since i was only using it for overvolting and the D3D11 hooking support now i see that Precision's OSD works with Steam ingame unlike Afterburner. Now only if Precision had voltage tweaking (voltage tuner seems like it has lost support since 2/23/2009) then i would switch. but i understand if you guys dont implement it because it would void a warranty (if it even does because you guys stand behind your warranty 100% .)

                                        Issue:

After I set my preferences for OC (unlinked) and Fan Speed (manual) applied them, set apply at WSU and then closed the program......when I open again, Linked is back on and Shader and Memory Clocks are lowered by several MHz. Core Clocks not affected. Also, Fan Speed is back on Auto at 40%. Reset>Apply>Close>Open>Same thing.

                                        Attempted Resolutions:

Initially installed v1.9.3 after a Control Panel uninstallation of v1.9.1 w/saved prefs. and then a reboot.

I then performed a CP Uninstall of v1.9.3, did not save prefs. and manually deleted the leftover PTool Folder in Program files. Rebooted>Installed v1.9.3>opened tool>set prefs.>Applied>set Apply at WSU>Closed tool>Rebooted. Open program = same issue.

                                        Said a few choice words....

                                        CP uninstalled v1.9.3 w/no save prefs>Manual delete of PF Folder>Reboot>Reinstalled v1.91>Set prefs.>Apply>Proper Function = Happy again.

Edit: 2x GTX 260 55nm SC OC'd @ SSC Spex SLI'd & Sync'd in Tool + Ded. PhysX 8600GT OC'd @ SC Spex...same issues occur on it also. I almost forgot...in reference to post #16...even after manually deleting, New Folder still went to old location for me.

now i see that Precision's OSD works with Steam ingame unlike Afterburner.

Not true, OSD server used in both applications is the same. You're mistaking again just like with differences about fan control which you discussed in Afterburner forum.

Link issue reproduced and confirmed, looks like it was introduced in the previous 1.9.2 when implementing linking infrastructure changes for Fermi series. Guess we'll need to move Link button state from hardware profile to global profile, Fermi related changes don't seem to fit well into old Link state saving apporach for old GPU architectures. The changes will be available in 1.9.4 soon.

There will be an EVGA software that can control voltages on the GTX 480 and GTX 470.  They've had one for the 65nm GTX 260, GTX 280, and dual PCB GTX 295.

I almost forgot...in reference to post #16...even after manually deleting, New Folder still went to old location for me.

And this one is unreal and not confirmed, sorry.

Thank you, Unwinder for the informative reply regarding the Link issue. Regarding the Folder issue...it is actually a non-issue to me...I very rarely use the screenshot feature and when I do...I don't have a problem with going to the old location to fetch it.

I'll wait for 1.9.4 as I'm folding for EVGApes and don't want to reboot to install this version.

                                                    Cheers!

What do you mean by fan profiles?  With EVGA Precision, you can set up separate profiles - each can have different clock speeds and fan speeds.  You can also set a separate 2D/3D fan speed profile, something I like very much.  You can't edit the auto fan speed profile like in Afterburner, but that feature doesn't work well for me anyway.  My GTX 480 heats up too fast for the auto fan - by the time it speeds up my GTX 480 would be past 90 degrees already.  I use a manual 80% fan and Afterburner for voltage control.  I can't wait to switch back to Precision for a 2D/3D fan profile setup.  I just need an EVGA voltage tuner for my GTX 480.

Yeah I was talking about the auto fan profiling for Afterburner.  I haven't had any problems with it yet.

Go to options and configure your OSD monitoring.

Oh, I have it set to display GPU 2 usage percent, and GPU 2 memory usage as well as GPU 2 temperature.

Usage stays at zero, even if I'm folding on the GTS 250 chip - and the GPU 2 memory usage always reflects the same value as GPU 1 memory usage.

The only thing Precision seems to properly measure is GPU 2, aside from speeds, that is.  I know the GTX 275 CO-OP is a unique card... but it was also made by EVGA. :D
