Upcoming EVGA W555 FAQ Sunday, February 28, 2010 9:24 PM (permalink)
FAQ of W555

You can run different models of Dual QPI Xeon together – such as 5520 + 5540, even Quad Core + Hexa Core together – but must be from same family – ie, NO for Westmere + Nehalem – Performance scaling is fine

You can run turbo mode on one CPU and non Turbo Mode on the other too

You can run a single CPU (Must be Dual QPI) in any one of the 2 sockets

You can run Non ECC normal DRAMs but also ECC Rams too

Dual QPI Xeon DRAM Multipliers/Uncore Multipliers are locked so you will only be able to use maximum 2:8 or 2:10 depending on segment of CPU

You can run 200 – 205MHz Baseclocks on air – 230+ needs LN2

Motherboard is 381mm width by 345mm length

Motherboard supports 4-way SLI on current GTX285/upcoming Flagship VGA

Motherboard supports 4-way Quad Fire

Motherboard will ship with typical 1366 Xeon socket back-plates but normal X58 socket back-plates will be bundled in package

Motherboard bundled with ECP V3 – Vcore Boosters + Speedfan 100% Click Boost + CPUs/PCIEs Disable

 Power Consumption Tests:

2.8GHz x 2 @ 1.20v w 24 threads Full Load + 12GB Rams + 1x GTX285 Classified Full Load = 535w from AC socket

2.8GHz x 2 @ 1.20v w 24 threads Full Load + 12GB Rams + 4x GTX285 Classified Full Load = 991w from AC socket

4.0GHz x 2 @ 1.30v w 24 threads Full Load + 12GB Rams + 1x GTX285 Classified Full Load = 766w from AC socket
.
4.0GHz x 2 @ 1.30v w 24 threads Full Load + 12GB Rams + 4x GTX285 Classified Full Load = 1,243w from AC socket

4.2GHz x 2 @ 1.40v w 24 threads Full Load + 12GB Rams + 1x GTX285 Classified Full Load = 913w from AC socket

4.2GHz x 2 @ 1.40v w 24 threads Full Load + 12GB Rams + 4x GTX285 Classified Full Load = 1,390w from AC socket

    That's intense.

I thought that you can only run Xeons on this board? Why the normal X58 back plates?

Ah nice. Also, what is the minimum amount of RAM (and config) you can run in this thing? ie: Can you put 3 sticks of RAM for one CPU but have both CPU sockets populated?

you can run 1 stick and leave one cpu unpopulated, performance is better if both cpus have their dimms to themselves.

Try running Prime95\LinX on the CPU's and Furmark on the GPU's Shamino.

I pulled 900 watts from the socket with two GTX 275's and an i7 at 4.0ghz 1.25v

Furmark is just out of this world GPU stress though.

My Test was Prime 95 22 threads and 3D SLI tests on 2 dedicated threads. Taking close to the peak values seen.

This looks like it's going to be one insane masterpiece of hardware and technology. EVGA + Shamino is a fantastic combo

I hope uber products like these continue in the years ahead, eventually I will have the income to buy some

EDIT: maybe even have enough money to hire an electrician so boards like this don't blow circuits

Does the W555 name as part of the thread title elude to something on the final naming?

Any news on announcing the winner of the naming contest?

W555 is the codename, not the actual product name.

Winner of naming contest will be announced when board is ready to be released.

IF you click the button do all the fans ping at 100%?

Try running Prime95\LinX on the CPU's and Furmark on the GPU's Shamino.

I pulled 900 watts from the socket with two GTX 275's and an i7 at 4.0ghz 1.25v

+1 i have pulled over 1350w from the socket with quad sli 295's and a i7 at 4.4ghz 1.45v, the board is looking to be an awesome folding rig for bigadv

15 inch  by just over 13.5 inches!!! Thats evan wider than EEB.  I knew it would be longer, but wider too.  I'm going to have to do some major modding to my case.  I hope MM releases a MB Tray that would make it easier.

They've already confirmed that they're working on it. Probably will be released at the same time as the board itself.

                                        1) What is the maximum amount of GB of memory this board can handle (ECC/non ECC modules)...48GB ??
                                        2) Is it possible to use ECC-R or ECC unbuffered memory modules ??
                                        3) If ECC-R is allowed what is the maximum amount of memory the board can handle ??
                                        4) Do you have any memory QVL list or maybe it is not made yet ??
                                        5) Did you test any particular case or have any list of cases which will this mthbrd will fit in ??

about a month ago there where only 2 cases said to fit.  one was a liali and the other i think was a supermicro.  I bet i'm wrong bout the 2nd one.

Motherboard will ship with typical 1366 Xeon socket back-plates but normal X58 socket back-plates will be bundled in package

That is HUGE!  I spent many hours (and a LOT of money) with a tap and die kit manufacturing my own custom screws so I could affix danger den water blocks to two xeons on my supermicro board.

I think I'm more excited about this board than the gtx 480; although I'm hoping to get two of those when I get this board as well.

I've got a few cases "candidates":

                                              Old series cases
                                              PC-V2010A/B

                                              New series cases:
                                              PC-P80

P80 - enogh space for all PCI-Ex slots
PC-A77 - not enough space for all PCI-Ex slots...but physically mthbrd should fit if we mount PSU on top...but even then not all PCI-Ex slots will be available.

This sounds like a job for this beastly thing...

Unless you plan on using a dual PSU solution its the only PSU that has enough cables to hook up everything:

                                                1 x 24 / 20-Pin Motherboard connector (550mm)
                                                1 x 8 / 4-Pin EPS / ATX 12V connector (750mm)You need one of these for each CPU
                                                1 x 8-Pin EPS 12V connector
                                                (750mm)
                                                4 x 8/6-Pin PCIE connector (550mm)
                                                4 x 6-Pin PCIE connector (550mm / 150mm)
                                                12 x SATA connector (500mm / 250mm / 250mm)
                                                12 x 4-Pin Peripheral connector (500mm / 250mm / 250mm)

(However I still believe you will need need a second PSU for four GPU's + heavy overclocking)

I've got a few cases "candidates":

                                                  Old series cases
                                                  PC-V2010A/B
                                                  Technical data:

                                                  New series cases:
                                                  PC-P80
                                                  Technical data:

                                                  PC-A77
                                                  Technical data:
                                                  http://www.lian-li.com.tw/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=212&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=61&g=spec
                                                  Image:

P80 - enogh space for all PCI-Ex slots
PC-A77 - not enough space for all PCI-Ex slots...but physically mthbrd should fit if we mount PSU on top...but even then not all PCI-Ex slots will be available.

I would Get a Mountian Mods case, they are built very well and give you all the options you need without running out of space.
(Note: all MM cases that support the X58 4 way SLI Classified will support this new board)
