What DPI do you use for your mouse?
Wednesday, August 22, 2012 8:43 PM

Hey, just wondering, what DPI do you all use on your mouse while gaming? Do you use different DPI for different games? Does ANYONE use a crazy DPI like 5700? My mouse supports 5700, but I've tried using it, and it's frankly too out of control...

2000dpi for my single 1080p monitor. Those really high dpi's are for multi-monitors, so you dont have to keep picking your mouse up, to keep it on the pad. But when I'm sniping in BF3, I hit the button on my mouse, to go down to 1600dpi or so, which makes it not so quick, so I can really shoot accurate.

800 on my Logitech MX 518, it can do up to 1600, but even at that level is too fast for me. it also depends on the game I'm playing too, some games have horrible slow mouse speeds while others are way too senstive

1900 for mostly everything. I have a 2400 for stuff in games that doesn't move fast enough like turrets in BF3.

4000 DPI + increased motion sensitivity. With my other mouse I'd use 5600 DPI in some games, though usually 4800 DPI. I only have one 23" 1080p monitor. Looks like I'm in the lead for now.

Yea not only that, but some FPS games have different mouse speeds too depends on the weapon you are caring as well, while it does add some realism, those kind can be so annoying though.

Well, I've been using 2000 DPI for a long time, myself. I like to think I have very precise, and quick aim...However, I have tried 5700. Everything is quicker, obviously, and smoother, but there's something odd about it. It just doesn't feel right.

I use 2000 generally. But sometimes I will setup a game specific profile to use different settings.

Normally on 7200 (lateral) by 4800 (vertical) on my Razer Taipan, forgot what my acceleration setting is, but fairly high iirc. I ran a old school Razer Boomslang 2000 and Razer Speed for a lot of years, and keep going higher. It seems odd to me, always has, but I cant seem to shoot straight and hit ANYTHING until I have my speed/acceleration up so high I can't run straight.

4800 As default (Mouse can go to 5600) Sometimes drop it 2300 or so in certain games (Minecraft).

Depends on the game. My mouse supports multiple DPI settings and I typically use 2000 DPI for navigating the desktop and most games. Some games that require a faster response like TF2 i'll use 2400 or even 3000 DPI. Mine supports up to 6400 DPI but that's just crazy.

I use The Razer Naga @ 5600 24/7 for everything, including gaming and all my shooters, Right now i currently have a single 24" 1920x1080, upgrading in the future to a 27" 2560x1440 ( Catleap ), I should also mention that 5600 is way too slow for me no matter what i do or play, it took me an hour to get use to it but i wish the 8400 versions would come out for my mouse! <3 P.S. my other settings i always use are 1000 Hz polling rate, and maxed acceleration' and in game sensitivity i normally raise higher because it still feels too slow in most cases...no issues with controlling things in or out of games.

It's really hard to believe a lot of you can can control your mouse at those DPI. When I turn mine to 5600 DPI, I don't even have to move the mouse 3/4 of a centimeter to go from side-to-side of my screen on my desktop. And, when I try to play at that DPI, moving the mouse even slightly turns me around uncontrollably. That's with default in-game settings and the following mouse settings: 5600 DPI, 1000 Hz polling rate, no acceleration. This is on my 24" 1920x1200 LCD monitor.

Used to keep it to 3700 , then down to 3200 . Lately it's been down to around 2000- 2500 - I found that setting is best overall for a variety of games. So I don't go changing it for every different one i play.

Nazca, if your post was aimed at me, I usually leave the game settings at default, because, maybe im just lucky, but most games feel comparably slow out of the box, and I do my adjustments through the mouse software and very little in game. I started out as KB only back in the Doom1 days, as I got into mouse play I found I had bad understeer problems, so I kept cranking it up, and I found I did best when it felt jerky and touchy. As I would get used to it, I found my aiming wasn't as good, so I would crank the speed up a little more. It has been a slow increase over time, but it just feels natural to me to have it crazy fast, now I definitely can't walk in a straight line like that, frankly my character walks like he is drunk, but it works for me. Stupidly fast mouse, combined with very jerky dodging style, as old friend refers to my movement as A.D.D. porting, doesn't look like I have focus, im just here, then bounce over there and 180 and so on.... Not every setting is for everybody, but it works for me.

different games and different situations in games push me to modify my DPI on the fly, prime example is hopping in a tank in BF3.

My new M90 allows for 3 settings and is way smoother than my old G5. As being new to it, my current settings are: 600/1200/2000 with sniper button set to 400. When playing L4D2 1200 works best for me and the game controll sensitivity is set to lowest...2000 is way too fast for me in that game.
