GTX 480 -> GTX 660Ti Tuesday, August 21, 2012 2:35 PM (permalink)
Hey guys,

Well I need to know something..my 480's are making my room too hot now - will going to a 660 ti make a noticable difference in the room temperature? Other rooms in the house in exact same conditions are roughly 15F colder than mine.

I don't mind a performance hit if I can have a colder room

    I went from a GTX 480 to GTX 680, and yes the temperature difference is huge.  My 680 with a custom fan curve rarely hits 60 degrees Celsius in the summer (about 32c/90f in this room), and now in this nicer weather it barely hits 50 degrees.  It's common for my gaming temps to be in the 40s, and idle is in the low 30s.  Compared to my 480, which needed a 100% fan to stay just below 80 degrees in games.   It's noticeably cooler in this room in the summer.

      You'll be missing them in a little over a month once it starts getting cold again. I wouldn't do that switch... Maybe to a GTX 680, but not GTX 660Ti's.

        If you don't mind a performance hit I'm sure you'll get less temps with a 660. Even on water my 690 is 5C cooler or more than my 580s, both on are on water.

          Yeah the 480's run hot. I went from a 470GTX @776/1552/1705 clocks that ran at 86C in a Antec 300 with 6 fans. The temperature change was jaw dropping when I switched to 2x670 FTW's. My cards with stock fan curve have yet to see 68C :)
          Anyway about the 660ti.....I wouldn't go there. Read this review-

          Stick with what ya got, if the temps of the 480's are too much for ya I'd consider some water blocks or additional case fans

            Can you not turn your AC down more bro or have a fan inside as well? Ya your room is going to get colder with a 660 like everyone is saying. My room got hotter with my two 670s because I came from a single 560.

              Are you talking about 480's in SLI to SLI 660ti's or to one 660ti

              If SLI you would not have a performance hit, a 660ti will be quite a bit faster than a 480 and yes most likely run cooler as well.

                If you want cooler than I suggest rather than buying two 660ti EVGA video cards you purchase a single EVGA GTX 680.
                Intel i7 3820 + Corsair H100, Corsair Vengeance LP Black 32GB (CML32GX3M4A1600C10), EVGA GTX 780SC w/ACX, (GTX 680/GTX 670SC for folding) Corsair AX1200 + Sleeved Corsair Modular cabling, EVGA X79 SLI MB, Corsair Force GS 240GB SSD (system), WD 2TB Black (two)  for storage/backup, Acer 23.6 inch LCD, Windows 7 Ultimate, Corsair 600T White Special Edition PC chassis, Corsair M60 + K60, Corsair Vengeance 2000 Headset, Corsair Link.

                R.I.P. JeffreyHam I'll keep folding for you and others in an effort to find a cure!
