Vcore on an Overclock
Monday, August 06, 2012 12:47 PM
( permalink)
Hi all. I have been working on my first OC and have the system booting/running at 4.0 GHz. However, when I run Prime95 it shows that 3 or 4 workers/cores are "not running". I have read through a lot of information concerning increasing the vcore but I am already currently at 1.4 which seems really high to me. Should I dare go higher or is this something to do with another voltage tweek somewhere? My CPU temps show mostly mid 20's idle and mostly low 60's while running Prime95. Not sure if these numbers are great or not. Any experts have a thought what else I might attempt? Thanks! Specs attached.....

1.4v if that's on the vcore it seems to high for just a 4.0Ghz overclock. You may have a old version of prime95. The newer version auto detects how many cores and auto sets it to that. Do you have 2x X5650's or just one?

lot of people have had to run 1.4 on the vcore to get 4.0. your temps are fine as well. of course you can always want better but some chips are better than others. I dont know much about prime 95 though so cant help you there. on my 5673's I run 1.4 as well, but i get 4.5ghz out of it. been doing it for over 6 months 24/7 so it hasnt fried them yet. and i fold with it that way at full tilt all cores.

what's your cpu vtt at because I got two X5650's in my sr-r @ 4.4GHz with only 1.3975vcore on both. up your vtt voltage and see if that lets you lower your vcore.

My VTT was set at 1.375 so I upped it to 1.4 and then tried lowering the vcore, no luck. Then went back to 1.4 vcore with 1.4 vtt and same result with Prime95 has four workers/cores "not working" but no blue screen. The upside is that in a test rendering completed on my two workstations I am able to get a 68% faster render time but I am afraid it will not be stable. I have attached all of my BIOS screen shots for anyone that can look and make a suggestion as I am just about out of ideas. Thanks everyone!

What bclk and multiplier are you using to get 4.0? You should enable speed step & Turbo in bios that would give you a 21x multiplier 21x191 would give you 4011 & you could probably drop the vcore some with the B-clock lowered.

I had the same issue , so I increased the vtt and dram , vtt didnt fix the issue but dram voltage helped me to fix these issues , and now its running p95 without any problems . I set the dram to : 1.7V and vtt to 1.4V

I see from your screen shot here you have TurboMode disabled Enable it will give you the 21 multiplier. Then drop the BCLK to 195 or 190 then test to see if its stable and everything works. Edit: your pictures wasn't showing up for me earlier when I posted.

When you open Prime95 is 24 shown in the box like in the picture below? If not you need to put 24 in there. Edit: I posted this to try & help with the unstable part, not for missing load on cores. johanas007 TheWolf I see from your screen shot here you have TurboMode disabled Enable it will give you the 21 multiplier. Could be a bad copy of prime95 "I've see this b4" uninstall or delete prime95 & download a new copy & give that a try.
