Another rig up & folding Saturday, August 04, 2012 10:12 AM (permalink)
Some changes have happened around me.  Sold one rig, built another in its place.  Replaced an Intel Extreme Core2 Quad QX6700 with an Intel i5 3570k.  Just got it online today folding after tweaking the settings and making sure everything checks out.  Thermal managment always seems to be an issue.  So once again I'm working on that, but for the time being, it is folding steadly at 3.0GHz for what looks to be 8,200 PPD.  Once I get the heatsink in, I will see how much further I can go without crossing 65*C (mobo max CPU fan target temp limit, wish it could be 70*C).  In order for the i5 to go up and running, I had to take the i7 2600k offline because I needed the mobo.  But don't worry, once EVGA releases their Z77 mITX board, the i7 2600k is coming out screaming.

Which heat?  The 100*F weather plus the recent brush fires we been having or the breaking the heat for the 3570k?

One thing I got to love about this Mercury build, it is so dang quiet.  Even more quiet than Quartz.  Maybe once I get Quartz back online folding, I will then start crunching on Mercury to things balanced.  And when the FAH challenges come around, I will have 3x rigs to put to good use.
