Okay I have a sata dvd player and now I'm trying to install a second HD and Vista 64, but in the bios under Advance Bios Features what setting do I use to make it boot off my sata dvd player (Plextor PX880SA) to install OS?

The simplest way to install by a SATA optical disk drive is to us the one time boot menu. On this product you should be able to access it by pressing ESC during the first post screen. From there select the optical driver and start the operating system install. Please let us know if you have further questions. Thanks EVGA Support

Sorry for the long delay, I was waiting on my new OS to get here. Okay when I got to the Boot Menu, there is a opt for CDROM, is this the correct opt? The only other opts are REMOVABLE, HARD DISK & NETWORK.

Okay neither option from from Creuss, vistaHead & Ryan work? When I go to the Boot Menu and select CDROM when the computer restarts I get the following message: error: no cdrom drive found, check pwr cable. error: IDE cd-rom device driver not installed Driver not found A: NWCDEX.EXE req a driver to be specified

I have only done it with Windows 7 and every time all I had to do was enable the SATA port that the optical drive was attached too and set the CDROM as the first boot device. I would try the Optical Drive on either SATA port 3,4,5 or 6 and the HD on SATA port 1 or 2. If that does not work try reversing the two. Step One: Turn the system on and hit the Delete key repeatedly to get into your BIOS. Step Two: Navigate to Integrated Peripherals IDE Function Setup Serial ATA Controller and set this to [ALL Enabled] Step Three: Esc out until your at the main menu again then Select the Advanced BIOS Features and navigate to the First Boot Device setting and select CDROM. Then select Second Boot Device and select HD. Step Four: Esc out and Save and Quit. This should be it. It should now read your Windows Disc and let you install the OS.

Creuss These are the normal steps I apply when every I have to install an OS and I have everything set already like you posted, but the only thing different is, I used a IDE drive not a sata optical drive. I just purchased a new IDE optical drive this afternoon and I'll report back with my results

Didn't you successfully install the OS on your old HD with the SATA based Plextor the first time? Both Plextor drives worked with your current setup correctly before the new HD right? I have read here on this forum where people also had the same problem and I believe the fix was to place the optical drive on SATA port 1 or 2 beyond that I suppose just installing the OS with an IDE drive will work. Good luck and keep us posted.
