Question

Hey, everyone. I'm a computer noob, but have just one quick question. I'm about to step up from my current card to a better one, but am wondering what the process is once I remove the existing video card from the PC. Will the computer run as normal when hooked up to the motherboard's VGA port, or will I need to disable some type of graphics within the computer menu? And once receiving the new card, do I just pop that in and hook back up to there, and am good to go? Thank you for any response.

Hey, Macros. Thank you. I am running an i7-2600K, ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3, 800W Cooler Master Gold power supply, and an EVGA GTX 570HD (upgrading to GTX 680). I was hoping that the processor would be strong enough to run the graphics of the iRacing simulation while waiting on the card. Sorry for not giving this information earlier. Thanks again. Also: 16GB of RAM.

In MOST boards , there is a setting in the BIOS options to enable or disable onboard video You would need to make sure that option is on when you remove your card to get any video signal from your boards' plugs.... Should look something like this .....

Thanks so much, STEVE_b! Just another question--should I disable onboard video once/after installing the new card? I'm not sure if that will help performance or not. Thanks again!

JJacoby88 Thanks so much, STEVE_b! Just another question--should I disable onboard video once/after installing the new card? I'm not sure if that will help performance or not. Thanks again! YES, always disable onboard after installing a dedicated video card , strictly for compatibility
