My GTX 680 FTW 4GB ~{SLi}~ Benchmark Results Thursday, July 05, 2012 6:17 PM (permalink)
Received my 2 new GTX 680 FTW 4GB GPUs today, that I traded my Classified + EVBot + some cash for!  Yup I own 3 of them now...lol  {Still trying to sell my original one in the marketplace...}   I'm done now, need to stop buying GPUs this generation and get back to saving money for the inevitable 700 series next year or whatnot.  Although, considering all the BS this generation, I may wait a few extra months and not be an early adopter, but we'll see!  I say that now...heh

EDIT: BTW, I went back to the 301.42 WHQL Drivers for all of these benchmarks.  Couldn't use beta drivers for the ASRock Z77 Contest and they're more stable than the latest 304.48/79 as far as I can tell.  I tested both GPUs individually before putting them in SLi, and both of them would remain semi-stable up to 1310MHz, but in some games/apps they'd crash, so I set them back to a max of 1300MHz for both and everything is great except for Heaven giving me problems.

Anyway, here are some pics of them installed as well as some benchmarks: {My camera sucks, so they're a little blurry...}

I know, some of you have commented that my PSU is installed wrong and is competing for air with my GPUs, but I was too lazy to flip it over and have to rerun/set several of the cables.  What with the 9x 120mm fans I have blasting cold into the whole of the case, each GPU as well as the PSU have their own fan providing air directly to them.  Temps are just as fine as they were with 1 GPU, so I'm not gonna worry about it for now.

And yes, if ya look closely at Pic #1, sandwiched between those 2 FTW is my PCI Creative X-Fi Soundcard.  The 2nd GPU covered my lower PCI slot, so no choice.  At least its semi-short and doesn't conflict with the upper GPUs fan.  its about 1.5in from it.

Decided to enter into the ASRock Z77 Contest that 3D Mark is running through July 9th.   The fourth and final week is ongoing and I was waiting on these new FTWs to arrive, cause a single 680 wasn't gonna do anything worth submitting.  I'm actually holding the #1 spot for 3D Mark 11 currently.  The question though, is will I hold it for the next 3.5 days ~ dunno, but I've got a rather good lead on all the other results.  Those prizes would be nice to have!

Gave the ASRock Z77 3D Mark Vantage contest a go as well.  Limited to only a single GPU, I scored P36301 and grabbed hold of the #4th position.  Not good enough, but you can only win one prize and those from the 3D Mark 11 contest are better...heh

For some odd reason I can't get Heaven to complete while OC'd, its not the drivers crashing but rather Heaven that keeps crashing with a D3D11 error box then a mess of code it asks me to submit.  Generally runs fine through to the final second of the 26th scene when the sun hit its apex.  Its driving me nuts so I gave up for now.  Dunno if I'll bother later...

Shall get some gaming OSD Results over the next few days in the following post.  If you want a specific game tested, please request it and if I have it, I'll see about getting them up asap...

~ Thanks for Looking ~

Battlefield 3 ~ Single Player Campaign:
When I'm in an interior location or tight spot, FPS hovers around 170-200+

Outdoor areas though drop to as low as 116fps, but are mostly between 135-168ish

    Just Cause 2 Benchmarks: {The Dark Tower, Desert Sunrise & Concrete Jungle}

    Final Fantasy XIV:
A scene from the beginning of the game at a solid 60FPS {unfortunately the MMO is capped at that}  Still though for an MMO that I could only get around 39-41fps at max settings in with a single reference 680 a few months ago, this is good!

For an air-cooled PC, the FTW are much better IMO.   And 1084MHz.

                Khalus,

Nice results so far. I too wonder why Heaven is crashing(?). That benchmark (and games) are the real test of stability but keep trying.

Anyway, do the FTW+ GPUs hit 100% on the fan speed or are those locked like the Classifieds as well?

Yup, working on getting some gaming screens w/ OSD and whatnot, and the fan on the FTW goes to 85%.  Much better than the 55% of the Classified.  Temps in BF3 at Ultra settings are about 64-65c at 70% fan speed!

Hmm.. any idea why the GTX-600 series have "locked" fan speeds? I mean, 55% on the Classifieds is absolutely pathetic! They're supposed to be the flagship GPU for the 600 series and they have gimped fan profiles and need a janky "bot" to control voltages! Ugh.. And given the fact that the SR-X is an absolute pig, I'm afraid EVGA is going down the tube... I love their customer service but there is a limit; no amount of CS can replace good products... product quality is # 1.. followed by good CS.. most companies get one or the other.. very rarely do they hit the nail on the head in both categories.. EVGA seemed to be doing just that with the 500 series.. especially the 580 Classifieds.. What happened?...

My Heaven results at your settings - I have 2 670s (one superclock and one stock, overclocked but not pushing the limits of the OC [SC oc'ed at:  25Mhz, 150 mem, ref at: 50Mhz, 250 mem])

                      I have a 3770 (non-K).   For reference, what's your CPU overclocked at?

Those are some good scores!  So the 3DMark11 bench that you scored 17391 you were OC to 1300 Mhz?

Thats a good score for that.  My 690 is OC to 1158Mhz, but same memory speed, and our cpus are at almost the exact same performance level.

Thats great there Khalus, I am glad everything is working out for you. Now slow down and step away from the shopping cart!   Those are some nice scores.

Yeah Heaven is some rough stuff to get stable with a oc. Once you get that stable. Then you have a completely 100% stable oc.

Well, Heaven is rather stable, through until the very last second then it crashes.   I'm getting tired of bench-marking, been doing it many GPUs for months, I've got some fine scores, gaming I enjoy is stable, so all is good!

Jealous of your CPU overclock!  I was in a position where I had to get a processor or lose the opportunity to upgrade my computer, on a personal level.  Wish I could have gotten the K variant! (it was out of stock for weeks!)

Same thing was happening to me on my 670 with Heaven on anything over +80 mhz increase.
But I can game fine at 100 mhz Batman / Diable ect.

Khalus, I'm curious... do you know what the CFM rating is for the blower on the FTW cards vs. the Classy that you had? The fan is physically larger, so I'm curious how close the 55% limit gets that fan to pushing the same as 85% on these smaller ones.

I'm glad that those baby's are working great for you! Remember the OC on your cards might be getting capped at the mobo level! I pushed my PCI-E bus up to 130 to get those amazing scores :]

The classy is working great! Seems that without overvolting it hits about the same clocks as one of the FTW cards so not bad, I'm excited to see what voltage and water cooling will do!

@Andrew: I can't comment on the actual CFM for the fan since I'm not sure how to measure it, however based on the noise and cooling I would have to say that at 55% the fan is working almost as hard as the FTW's 85%.

I should be getting my 2nd 680 classy on Monday so I'll be posting all the OC goodness then!

Good to hear. I can't imagine they would use a cooler with a fan that ran less cfm through it than all the others (SC, Sig, FTW)... if anything I would guess more being a larger fan. You know... similar to the huge difference in cfm between an 80mm fan running at 1800rpm, and a 120mm running at the same. Just doesn't make sense that it would be a downgrade.

Been monitoring temps, and when I have the A/C on they're generally around 30-31c, but today I havn't turned it on yet due to the power being off and my was asleep.  Temps on both GPUs are holding steady at about 37-38c.  Not bad I suppose...

Is it bad that after spending at least $2000 on a new PC, $1300 of which is wrapped up in graphics, and the current game I'm playing right now is:

                                                Y's Origin

I'm still playing the single player mission of BF3 and a few other games that demand a high spec PC, but the primary use of this PC are for Guild Wars 2 and FFXIV 2.0 that aren't out for several months yet...heh

                                                  Nope, it´s not bad.
If you want to play these games just do it and have fun.
When my new rig is ready, i also don´t going to play only the most spec intensive games.

Can't wait for my case to get delivered today so I can put these 680 FTW's in. They've been sitting here since Friday unused. Nice scores and overclock, hope mine are similar.
