GTX 580 384bit 1.5gb Pink Lines issue. Tuesday, July 03, 2012 7:03 PM (permalink)
So a friend of mine started his computer up today and it has pink lines on the screen and when windows starts to load the screen turns black and crashes. We have tried reseating the card in multiple different slots. Tried safe mode and it does the same thing, pink lines then crashes before loading. The pink lines are also in the bios. We switched the card out to a GTX 280 and it works just fine, no lines ro crashes. Is the card just bad and need replaced or could it be the thermal paste being old? Tried the card in another computer aswell using a DVI to VGA adapter and it works just fine.

    Hi to all.
Had a similar problem with gtx 580 1586mb. Red horizontal lines in win xp. But no such lines (artifacts) during system booting or in BIOS. Only in win xp. Also, problem with drivers. 301.42 drivers installing normally but after rebooting, video adapter still work slowly, exclamation point next to icon of VA in device manager, no driver setting available. I tried to install drivers couple of times, but no effect. Then i deleted drivers and restarted pc. It booted with black screen in windows. Don't know how to "reset" GTX580.  Can't enter safe mod. Tried another PCI-E slot. Nothing changed. Is it some kind of Hardware error? Will re-flashing of bios may help?
PSU is OCZ on 600 w. No overclocking for VA.
    And sorry for my english.

Pink lines in the BIOS means you have eliminated the OS and the drivers as those are not even loaded yet.  It's not likely the TIM is going to have much effect while you're booting and not under load and you said it works fine in another system. Did you use the same cable on both systems or try a different one?
