New rig finally done!

Finally got my MB, CPU and MEM upgraded after wanting to do it for over a year :) Glad I waited the 3770K + EVGA Z77 FTW fly's when you cool it well! Here is a pic of the outside of the rig And a closeup shot of the internal Here is quick 3DMark11 benchmark at 5.4GHz! But she ain't done yet! Here is a CPU-Z validation at 5.7GHz! Not exactly stable enough for a 3DMark11 score, but I think I can tweak it a bit and may be able to do 5.5GHz or 5.6GHz... http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2422084

Curious why you did not use slots 2+4 for your 680's?

surfnet Curious why you did not use slots 2+4 for your 680's? For cooling primarily. There is little gain to be had from 8x Gen3 to 16x Gen3

CAxVIPER bhk1004 Since I am noob what in the world are you using to cool that CPU? Phase changer That is more of a slang word, doesn't describe too much. Try using the words "compressor cooler" or "refrigeration cycle cooling". Phases change in a heatpipe from liquid to vapor, though passively. bhk1004, these are very expensive coolers for the Qmax they support although they are more efficienct that using TEC/Peltiers. Both ways are not simple plug 'n chugs either, takes a day of preparation mainly to reduce or prevent condensation, since the CPU ends up well below zero. In part to expense, the preparation and noise of these units is why these coolers aren't popular or seen thesedays. Just so you know, it isn't the same as sticking your computer in a fridge; in many ways your refrigerator isn't designed to run continuously since everything inside isn't dissipating its own heat. So the compressor pumps in "phase change" coolers are usually bigger and more robust, thus expensive. In fact size is directly dependent on what you're cooling; there is no one-size-fits-all. An $800 could cool a 200W load, while a $1200 unit would be needed for a 300W load-- overclocking raises the heat load exponentially, so if you want higher than water, you need both more heat removal at a lower temperature-- usually below ambient. Simple explanation how compressor coolers work: - The compressor compresses the refrigerant gas inside to a high pressure and high temperature,
- then this hot gas goes through a heat exchanger (which is like a radiator), most of the heat is dumped via a fan, and the result is a cooler high-pressure gas,
- then through a long thin pipe the slowly pressure drops while the gas changes phase to liquid, but at a colder temperature (typical R134a liquifies at -30C, other refrigerants are colder).
- This cold liquid is sprayed at the evaporator head attached to the CPU, which instantly boils taking the heat from the CPU with it.
- The gas goes to the compressor and the cycle continues.
These refrigerants are sealed in the loop and are toxic to inhale so you need an HVAC specialist to mess around with it, DIY is not an option unless you have the licence and are a similar technician. Can't use any liquid though, you need something that liquifies at low temeprature within reason.

I've seen that phase changer in Jacob's machine in pretty much 3-5 builds now. Expensive or not, keep that thing running and he'll always be running numbers second only to liquid nitrogen @_@

Ive had it for many years... starting with nForce 680i! Probably should be retuned by now but still runs great. I did recently swap out the intake fan though with a bit more powerful one and change the LCD panel as the one on the original unit died :)
