Why you shouldn't use clear tubing Wednesday, June 20, 2012 4:54 AM (permalink)
This is what happens to clear tubing after about 3-4 weeks of nonstop use. Distilled water used as coolant, silver kill coil for anti-microbial purposes. No coloring, dyes, any other chemicals... discolored tubing in the middle, original unused tubing surrounding it. Tubing by XSPC.

It's not heat, it's the plasticizer.

i purchased some stuff from sidewindercomputs that was for dairy and food.  It hasn't changed yet.   I did the other loop in some different stuff, and it turned right away.   This stuff has worked pretty well so far.

WOW that stuff is expensive, $3 per foot!! I guess my next tubing upgrade would be some PrimoChill ones, as I've heard better things about those than the XSPC ones that I got. My current one is UV red anyways, so I won't see the discoloration Doesn't bother me as long as it doesn't affect performance!

I never had issues with mine till I started using red dye.

Yeah, I used the dye cause it had other chemicals in it to stop fungus and corrosion.

I've always used the Lowe's stuff for like .45 cents a foot. takes about a month to discolor but i don't care.

                        +1 to Primochill LRT.
I've had some clear tubing in my loop for a year and there is no apparent discoloration.

last night I stripped my case off everything (prepping for some work). I took a picture of my stock xspc clear tubing .... ewwww, looks ugly when there is no water in it:

LOL, yeah, it looks actually uglier in the pic than in real ehehe my cell phone camera shifts colors a bit if lighting is poor (it was)
when water was flowing it was only smoked (whitish, not greenish-brownish like in the pic).

that's probably the ugliest pic I have taken so far
