You're seriously trying to say that the ASUS G55VW can't play games?

Maybe have a look at the MSI GT60 also, or the Sager NP9170.  No need to spend over $1600 on a gaming laptop IMO.

But the Asus laptop im looking at because it has an actuall cooling solution on it.

In that range i'd definitely go with a Sager.

Id have to see their cooling solution first. and a backlit keyboard.
Xotic's is giving me the option of a backlit keyboard with purple lights and i know the asus heatsink works very well.

On second thought, I'd suggest that Asus G55VW. Unless you want to look at the NP9150.

That thing with a HD7970M would last you a long time. It's pretty much the power of a HD6970 desktop card.

Since my alienware had issues, i fear the lack of adequate cooling in my laptops
Im not getting a laptop unless i know its cooling solution is adequate
So the G55 seems to be promising alot that i can look towards, maybe you can agree?

I will second a Falcon Northwest laptop. Their products are always top notch, and their customer service is second to none. You're getting a gaming grade laptop that is hand assembled in the US, and you won't be talking to outsourced tech support.

The price tag that you're seeing from Falcon Northwests laptops also includes a swank, custom paint job as well... don't hate on FNW because of its price; you're essentially getting the best laptop money can buy, inside and out.

Not to be prude, but as much as i hate alienware's hardware their techsupport wasnt outsourced garbage, not in the 2.5+years did i talk to someone who didnt speak the same language as me natively, with the exception of them speaking different dialects of english than me.

and even if it is "best i can buy"
                                for about 16months.
No, no reason on earth could validate that crappy excuse. no dont even try to ship me that garbage that a 4000$laptop is worth it when the next line of GPUs making it last years junk hardware, ESPECIALLY when its a laptop which is at high risk for damage. these are freaking cars or motorcycles, these are silicon chips and PCBs.

I've been looking too (more for mobility), so looks like I'm about to pull the trigger on a little Sager NP6110 11.6" model (under 4lbs with battery). I have a good desktop at home - this is just for out and about, so weight was a big factor, and I didn't want to spend too much on it either, although severely tempted to go for a 15.6" model..

The Sager NP9150 RainStryke linked to above looks pretty good - I was considering that for a while - you can customize specs quite a bit on the Sager site. XoticPC are resellers of Sager (and ASUS etc).. XoticPC have some nifty options for putting skins on laptops, however I will order direct via the Sager website.. even though it's about $30 more, I worry that going through a reseller means just an additional level of bs to get through if something goes wrong. Don't need that. That NP9150 has a full size backlit keyboard with multiple color options too - apparently you can even have the keyboard with differing colors at the same time if you're into that [image link]. Groovy.

Another laptop you might consider is the MSI GE60 0ND-042US (yeah I know.. **** is with that model name lol), but that's pretty sweet for the money (it's a 15.6"). I think XoticPC also act as resellers for them. I was very tempted on that model - nice specs for the money, not sure if keyboard is backlit though.

I contacted XoticPC late last night about the cost of an optional matte upgrade, and they responded first thing this morning, so they at least have a speedy response time to queries, fwiw.

Also consider the GPU; the GTX 650M & 660M are 28nm Kepler, the 670M & 675M are 40nm Fermi, which use more power and thus produce more heat (depending on usage I guess).

The GTX 680M looks nice, but daaaammnnn they want like $500 additional for that GPU. Bah.

Good luck.. so many choices, it's tough to make a decision.

and even if it is "best i can buy"
                                    for about 16months.

I hardly think what I wrote was a "crappy excuse" to legitamize the expense of a Falcon Northwest laptop. Enthusiasts with the view that money is no object will appreciate the power, beauty and performance of a FNW system. I know I do.

To address your fear of investing your hard earned money into a system which will be outmoded, or how should I say, "junk hardware" in 16 months, while I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but any sytem you buy today will be deprecated in 18 months.

I find it a bit hypocritical, however, that you would spend the money on an Alienware system, yet scoff at the price of a FNW system, while more expensive than the Alienware you bought, still represents your need to invest your money into a premium, ultra-exclusive laptop that will last you 16 months before becoming "junk hardware".
                                    .

this is EXACTLY my point. 4000$ for a laptop that i could get the same performance for 2500$ less? Ill go with Asus or sager from xotic as they provide some rather accessable mods, and provide a much much more relevant system without requiring me to spend an astronomical price.

                                      I bought an alieware M11x for 1000$
It was the only 11inch gaming capable laptop with a backlit keyboard, it suited my needs at the time.
It wasnt 3800 freaking dollars for the same price as something for 1200$
                                      Those prices are beyond obsurd.
I wouldnt even pay that much for a DESKTOP.

I could possibly understand if the laptop had sockets PCIE slots SLI/Xfire support 2 hard drive bays, was fully custom paint and they offerd a 3 year UPGRADE SERVICE where they upgraded your laptop over 3 years replacing the CPU/GPUs and RAM over a 3 year period.
But 3800$+ for a one time deal?

                                      No. just no.
I'll just get me a G75/G55 of the same power and go back to newegg with the extra 2000$ and upgrade my rig with some enthusist parts, thanks.

3.8grand for a laptop, in my opinion anyone who drops that kinda money on a non business line Toy laptop, is just a bit out of their mind.

I cant beleive this, 3.8K$for a GTX560Mobile graphics card in a laptop with a DESKTOP processor. DESKTOP CPU with a MOBILE graphics card. Wow thats nuts.
A nehalem CPU(2generations old) with a 500 series mobile GPU(1 generation old) for 3.8grand, and thats a laughable 1year warrenty for that price. Seriously you're joking  me right?
I can get a current generation Mobile CPU, Current gernation Mobile graphics card(will perform better than the falcon) with a backlit keyboard of my color choise(purple), and a 3 Year Parts & LIFETIME Ltd Labor Warranty 24/7 Tech Support w/ LCD Accidental Damage Protection, for 350$ added to my laptop and its still less than 1800$

Too bad you can't get a deal like CraptacularOne, he got his from CyberPowerPC with a HD6990M for about $1200 IIRC. He had a bunch of coupons that cut down the price. You might be able to find coupons for these laptops on sites like slickdeals. Don't be hasty with your choice, you don't want a laptop that you will just regret over paying for.
