Those cpu's should work on these boards also. http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon7000/7500/X8QB6.cfm?SAS=N
Here is a barebone for not a bad price. I know Tanner got those cpu's for less than $1500. What a steal. http://www.acmemicro.com/ShowProduct.aspx?pid=8016

I read the thread over at [H] about the 1567 socket system(s) and really found it to be non-conclusive (no real reports of what the setup could do).

I came to the same conclusion. Regardless of the "efficiency", I would like to see PPD numbers on a 4 socket and 8 socket system.

Speaking of the efficiency, the very popular AMD 6174 (used in 4P systems) has a TDP of 140W, so this 130W Xeon isn't what I'd call inefficient.  Even if each CPU did draw 130W, how many of us wouldn't want the opportunity to run 80threads on 4 CPUs and only use 520W for the CPUs?  I have 1P rigs that use a heck of a lot more than that and I don't consider them efficient by any stretch, which is why I've been looking at building a 4P rig.

That was a heck of a snag by Tanner on the cost of those CPUs and I hope he can build what might be the "motha of all Folding Rigs"...

With those cpu's I would be shooting for the 8 socket system with 160 threads. Here is the barebone for that. http://www.wiredzone.com/Supermicro-SYS-5086B-TRF-Barebone-5U-S-1567-f--up-to-8x-Xeon-7500~10020961~0.htm

It is possible they would work on 4p boards, just that there is no confirmation - not written as compatible with 88XX series
          they say e7-48xx series.

to be certain I would contact Supermicro to be sure on CPU's compatibility

$1139 shipped for all 4. I have 4 hours left to accept offer.
Supermicro says these will work on x8qb6-f if it has ver. 1 bios.
The guy that has them ran them on this board.
EVGA folders have been nothing but amazing to me.

you can start a web page to get donations for the other 4 CPU's tanner (to run 8) and maybe to cover some of the cost to run it

you probably get some help from here. I can't speak for everyone but it would be a team thing

and you might get some support from other people browsing on the web and facebook if you link your fb pages to your web page(s)
              ie 10,000 visitors donating $1

Anyone else enjoying the heat? About 25C in my room, CPU is around 78C, GPUS are 65C. Surprised it hasn't clunked out, my i5 system did while doing prime tests at 4.5, I want it to be winter already!

                    2 things about that link.
                    1. It's an Australian store, so if pricing holds true, you should be able to get that board substantially cheaper in the States.

                    2. Not sure that I would trust a store that supposedly deals in high-end server components, and yet the first thing in their catagory list is perfume

Just had to come back to this thread and say we are doing great as a Team and reaching back up into some new areas of Folding achievement.  It certainly takes all of us making the effort and having lots of dedication to bring-in the kind of production we are seeing in the heat of summer.  My hat is off to all of you, and as Horvat said "hmmm look at that".
