My GTX 680 FTW 4GB Unboxing/Installation and Benchmarking results w/ pics... Wednesday, May 30, 2012 5:21 PM (permalink)

Got my GTX 680 FTW 4GB today.  Would have made this thread earlier but UPS decided not to ring the bell or knock at the door to alert my dogs, thus my package sat out there for nearly 2hrs before I found out it was there...kinda fell asleep while waiting so I was banking on my dogs to go haywire, but alas that didn't happen.

Anyway, here are some pics of the unboxing and installation.   And I must give mad props to EVGA on the design and color scheme of this GPU.  I had thought that the colored strip along the top of the card was white like the signature editions {didn't care for that, but could live with it}, but to my surprise its an incredibly sexy, brushed-silver metal:

I really wish I had a better digital camera, so sorry for some of the images not being so clear...

Unboxing:

The GTX 680 FTW 4GB ~ truly a beautiful GPU, excellent job EVGA!  {it was worth the wait}

Being friendly with the Reference GTX 680 model:

Benchmark Results and Comparisons will be listed in the following post!  ~ Stay Tuned

    BTW, the clock speed of this GPU at stock settings has been capping out at about 1202MHz during these benchmarks...very nice!

    In the following benchmarks the Reference GTX 680 was using the nVidia Driver version 301.10.  The GTX 680 is using the latest 301.42 drivers.  I'm assuming that is why its being identified as a Generic VGA Adapter...ah well

    3D Mark 11 Benchmark Scores:

    The following link/image is of the Reference GTX 680 at OCed settings of:
    • Power Target 132%
    • GPU Clock Offset +100MHz
    • MEM Clock Offset +502MHz

    And here is the GTX 680 FTW 4GB at Stock settings, really nice and damn near on par with the OCed Reference model

    These next results are using the 301.10 drivers, as the 301.42 drivers kept crashing when attempting any OC settings.  The final settings used to remain stable are as follows:  {A rather nice increase in performance over the reference model}
    • Power Target ~ 118%
    • GPU Clock Offset ~  +76MHz
    • MEM Clock Offset  ~ +375MHz

    Unigine Heaven 3.0 Benchmark Scores:

    Here are the results of the Reference GTX 680 at the same OCed setting as posted above:

    And the results of the GTX 680 FTW 4GB at stock settings:  {again almost on par with an OCed reference model}

    Lastly, the results of the GTX 680 FTW 4GB OC'd after reverting back to the 301.10 drivers to remain stable.  The 301.42 kept crashing when attempting any OC settings.  Here are the max possible settings I was able to remain stable with:
    • Power Target ~ 118%
    • GPU Clock Offset ~  +76MHz
    • MEM Clock Offset  ~ +375MHz
    For a whopping total of 1278 MHz.  Not bad if I do say so...

    More to follow soon!

                Ohhh man! I keep getting emails from EVGA telling me they're in stock only to click the link and be disappointed! LOL.
                Can't wait to see how she performs.

                  Will the rest of us ever be able to get one of these? Personally I want two and then run surround.

                    I was gonna order the 4GB FTW but seeing how long the card is in this photo makes me glad I jumped to the Zotac 680 AMP! The EVGA card would not have fit in my case. I get a little better scores than those with my AMP!'s stock overclock. On auto fan on my card at full load i hit 68C at 30% fan speed. But I have no intentions of pushing it further. Works fine for me!

                          The FTW is overclocked from the factory so you may not be able to set the same offsets as your did with the reference card. I would first check the stock boost frequency with the maximum power target set and note that value down to have something to compare to your reference card.. Then try +20 MHz core over stock with memory at default and go from there. Congratulations on your card purchase.

                            Am reinstalling the older drivers for now, and yeah I've been playing with the OC settings, but thus far nothing I've chosen has been working.  Just keeps crashing, so we'll see in a moment...

                                  What kinda temps are you getting?

                                  Idle temps have been hovering around 38-40c, which is odd cause my reference 680 was around 27-29c.  Although I have had the fans off down here in the basement most the day so its a bit warmer than usual.  Will have too check them later...

                                  Oh and new info in the benchmark results is being posted shortly!

                                      Thanks for pointing out the trim. I wasn't too excited about the white but now I'm really looking forward to a couple of these.

                                          Try Ocing everything except the memory frequency to see how far you can push the GPU. Till you reach your OCing limit, then, increase the memory by 2hz

                                                        I'm looking forward to your OCing results. Can a Mod please give the OP a Blue Ribbon for his efforts on posting these nice pics comparison of both Gpus and benches? For crying out loud the man lost some sleep doing this for us.
                                                        Btw, congrats on being the first to post and getting this sexy GPU

                                                            Congrats!! I wish a waited for a 4GB model : )  Anyways to defend the 680 Signature Editions honor, their stripes all have the brushed metal texture too, it just looks white in the pics.
