Here's a review that runs 670 SLI and compares it to 680 SLI. If you final goal is SLI, 670s seems to scare a little better and match the performance of 680 SLI give or take a couple frames. I don't feel this justifies the extra $200. Which you could spend on an SSD if you don't have one or a 120hz monitor if you like playing at 1080p. Just a little more food for thought.

Also if you don't know about microcenter, i would see if there's one in your area. Killer deals on the 3570 with motherboard combos.

Thanks darkwing for the information you have provided seems like there's no point in getting two 680's over two 670's for another £200 I agree however that 200 pound difference is based on 2GB cards so I'm tempted to get two 4GB 670's which is the same
Price as two 680's by a couple of frames but with twice the VRAM which seems worth It as I would have thought two 670's will last a long time :) Or should I buy one then buy the other or just splash out and get two and be done with it

Battlefield 3 at 1920x1080 is already starting to use 2gb apparently so I don't want to get two 680's then realise I'm VRAM capped would rather get two 670's with 4GB of VRAM and be 5 percent worse than a stock 680.

        What's your specs?

Are you running any additional AA in your NCP?  If you have 4x MSAA and FXAA enable in-game, that should pump up your usage at around 0.7 GB VRam to 1.7 GB (rough estimate), to 1 680/670.  Anything above that, you're usage will probably go up if more AA is supplemented from your NCP, at your resolution.

If you look at it from my setup, Quadfire 6990s with just 4x MSAA and FXAA enabled in game.  That's including some samples from Catalyst (12xAA samples + MSAA).  I use about 5 to 6.5GB Vram total.  You divide that by 4 gpus, that's less than 2.0GB per gpu at 2560 x 1600 resolution.

In theory, your usage per card should be way less than mine at a lower resolution.

I'm aware that at my resolution 1080p I don't need 4Gb of VRAM however I'm wanting this new pc which consists of a 3570k @ 4.4 with 2 670's 4GB because I want this pc to last for a long time and within them 5 years I'll probably get a 1440p monitor or 1600p

Even now at 2560x1600 i have encountered zero vram issues in games with 2gb 680s. But yeah, Id agree with your idea for future proofing.

Dude.... you've made it this far. Build it yourself. Learn the skill. Basically, if you can read, (which youve demonstrated the ability to do) and see (which you must be able to do since you can read), and use your hands, (which you are able to do since we see you type)..... you can build your own rig. You've got a support staff here on duty to help you with any problems you encounter. Don't consider having someone else build........ know your rig inside and out.

Fair enough you have given me the confidence to do this :) thanks man :) I'm assuming your quite an expert ;) so people on this forum would be willing to help ? :)

1.5k is it worth it ? I'll get £350 for my current rig ?

If you want to, start a new thread in the general hardware section detailing your plans for a new build. People here would be more than willing to help you pick out the best individual components for your new rig, all while trying to save you maximum cash. You can trust a lot of people in here, just make sure you do some reading yourself............ then next time, you can be the helper.

Building is simple. Everything is labeled, everything has basic instructions, and generally speaking everything only plugs in one way.

absolutely love my sli Evga 670 FTW :D
i game at 2560 and they run everything maxed out...2gb is fine especially since the next games out will start using TX and FXAA which will drastically reduce the memory footprint.

seriously wouldnt pay the extra for a 680 over the 670 FTW as it uses that same pcb as the 680 and overclocks really good mine both out the box boost past 1215 core and with a small overclock notched up to 1280 im not sure most 680 get that far nowadays maybe when first released but not now.

even the 680 ftw dont overclock as well as they should.

up to at the end of the day but im saving for a 3rd :D love it  so much..
