480 GTX slow 2D performance? Friday, May 11, 2012 2:44 PM (permalink)
Hi!

Is there a benchmark for GUI drawing performance in windows? My GTX 480 seems kind of slow displaying menus and dialogs in 3ds max, even my office PC does it faster and every spec of it is much slower than my home PC...

Thanks!

Could be anything.. CPU ram other processes or conflicting drivers or system settings. I am sure the other system you speak of is different in specs right.

I doubt it is the 480. Try running msconfig and go over your running services and startup programs.

Hi! It's strange but it's something that has happened with both my 480 and the 470. I do run msconfig and regedit as maintenance so there's no unnecessary stuff running.

Yep both systems are different, @work it's just a dual core pentium with a low end radeon and @home an SR-2 with dual xeons and the 480 haha :(

Download CCleaner at ccleaner.com, install, clean system first, then registry. That ought to speed it up.

Try going into the Nvidia Control Panel and go to
Manage 3D settings > Global Settings tab  and click Restore

          Then go to
Manage 3D settings > Program Settings tab  and click Add

Now Add the 3ds Max exe

Now go down and try setting power management mode to (prefer maximum performance)
