RMA'ing two different parts and testing for stabililty Tuesday, May 08, 2012 10:07 AM (permalink)
My EVGA GTX 295 FTW (never OC'ed) right now crashes constantly/black screens in about 90% percent of games I play (Supcom FA, Crysis, Deus Ex:HR, Spiral Knights, TF2, Just Cause 2, and many others). My motherboard (E760) was damaged two years ago due to the power draw of the GTX 295 and defective 24 power pin (causing the 2 pins in the 24 pin to be discolored/burned out?) but after RMA'ing the power supply and getting a new one back then it seemed fine (games didn't crash/system booted fine/temps were normal). However its got the point in the last three months I can't play those games without seeing a nvidia driver error/black screen every 3-10 minutes (desktop popup, a BSOD has happened few times, temps hover around 67-75 C full load in games) while in game (some even at low settings) and none of the new/old geforce drivers I install for the 295 help it at all (the current power supply and the pin sockets on it seem fine though, but I don't know if those 2 pins on the motherboard might cause instability and if it would affect the replacement card). I was wondering if I could RMA the E760 while RMA'ing the 295? I don't have a backup card so I think I should RMA them both. Should I get separate support tickets, RMA them and send them in different boxes?

Also how do you guys test these graphic cards while they are being RMA'ed? None of the stress testers I use (Furmark, EVGA OC Scanner, etc.) cause any crashes, only games/Firefox(rarely happens) do (also ran the tests with the CPU at stock settings, 295 in the different PCI-e slots, and I even reinstalled Windows, it doesn't seem to affect the crashing at all).

If the 2 pins on the motherboard themselves are damaged I would replace the board.

i am also experiencing the black screen of death with my 295 co-op, however only while playing WoW.
diablo3 runs fine, ran oc scanner and not getting artifacts. i opened a ticket because i wasnt sure if it was my ram mobo or gpu and they suggested it was my card.
