GTX 680 Causing Machine Reboot Tuesday, May 01, 2012 7:42 PM (permalink)
I purchased a new EVGA GeForce GTX680 SuperClocked and since installing it my computer has been rebooting itself after a few minutes of gameplay. I have tried a number of things to ensure that it is the 680 that is causing the issues.  I've tried a fresh install of Windows 7.  I'm using the latest drivers from the nVidia website.  I thought the issue might be overheating (my card was hitting 80 degrees C) so I set the fans to 100% using evga precision x.  This kept the card at around 45C while gaming but I was still getting reboots.  I put my GTS 450 back in and have been playing games all night without a single reboot so I know it has to be related to the 680.  At this point I'm thinking it is either a faulty card or perhaps a power issue.  The 680 doesn't draw much more power than my 450 according to its specs but its the only thing left that I can think of.
Computer Specs:
P6t sei7
950 - 3200MHz24gb
GSKill DDR3-1600
Hitachi 1TB SATA
driveCrucial 128GB M4 SSD
700watt Power Supply

Can you try another PSU? In general random reboots with no BSOD are a PSU issue or CPU overheating - Usually PSU especially since the other card works.

Unfortunately the 700 Watt PSU is the only one I have access to. Based on my troubleshooting I'm thinking that it may be overloading the PSU. Has anyone else run into similar problems with a 700 Watt PSU on a similar rig?

Did you try re-seating/physically reinstalling the card?  Also depending on the PSU, if it has multiple rails are you overloading one?  Seems any decent 700W PSU should easily handle what you have listed unless it's dying.

I doubt it's the power supply as I have same thing with single 680 but I can put in cf 6970 or 58o sli with no problem
